Hello,
I just joined this site after looking in some forums and not seeing any bashing, and very little "well, I think..." waste of breath comments.
My first GM diesel is a 1986 CUCV w/TH400, and my second was a 1996 C2500 w/4L80 which I sold for a hefty profit, but wish I'd kept, though I would've changed out its 4.11 gears! These two rides prompted me to purchase all of the Mr. Bisely books, each of which I've read cover to cover probably 4 times.

My third and so-far final GM diesel is a 1995 K2500 w/ NV4500 I bought in 2008 that was barely running when I bought it, but had a stack of receipts for a complete Dealer transmission overhaul, with new clutch, etc. I paid less for the truck than the transmission receipts added to!
Anyway, here it is 2014 and I've since bought 8 acres, bought and restored 3 houses, and got married. It's now time to finish rebuilding my engine! So far the block's been machined and the heads replaced. The goody list includes a Fuidampr, gear drive timing set (both purchased second-hand but unused), new crossover and down pipes, the Jim Bisely recommended glow plugs, and Turbomaster. I may eventually follow Heath's advice and have the computer control the wastegate operation; he knows these vehicles more than me, but as a mechanical engineer and son of a diesel mechanic/instructor, I have a strong affinity for things mechanical. I don't diagnose electrons very well! I believe there's a good reason the last line of defense on a pressure vessel is a mechanical relief valve.

I'm currently collecting parts for the cooling side, including AC Delco 251-603 water pump, and AC Delco version of the Duramax fan.
For those with true, hard and fast knowledge of the Hayden Clutch I should use, I look forward to hearing from you! I have the 2007 catalog from their website, and I understand the 2886 is the 'heaviest duty', which interests me. However, that clutch pushes the fan .35" further towards the radiator, and the new water pump is already about 0.5" deeper than my original 1995 (4-bolt) water pump. Is 7/8" going to hurt me, or is it a blessing since I have a fan shroud sized for a 20" fan, and the Duramax fan is 21"? I really don't care for 'self tolerancing'.

My other interests/hobbies including home-brewing, working on my old WD45 tractor, BBQing, walking the woods with my dog, and reading books that influenced our Founding Fathers (John Locke, etc.).

Welcome to The Truck Stop! :welcome2:
I believe you have already found that we pretty much act like adults around here...
Make yourself at home and welcome to the brotherhood (and 1 very knowledgeable sister... )

For your truck specific discussions, why not start a new thread in the 6.5 or other appropriate forum if it's not about the engine and you're off and running!

And again, from one mechanical eng to another, WELCOME!

"well I think" you have found the best site for the 6.2/5! :hello:

Further, the good (real) mechanical aptitude of our members will go beyond just light trucks.

Very knowledgeable Dmax guys here too.

Welcome.

Will L.,
Sorry about the "Bisely", I misspelled Jim Bigley's name not just once, but twice! I've obviously been spending too much time looking at single-action revolvers... Jim founded and heads TheDieselPage.
