Hi guys, my name is TJ and i bought a 1997 Chevy k2500 with the 6.5 TD a few months back. It had 135k with some rust which is expected being in Iowa lol. Its been a great workhorse so far but the mods will be coming! So far I've put on black PYOs, gmt800 tow mirrors, and the 4" Diamond Eye exhaust and FloPro crossover pipe. The vacuum pump has recently failed though and i was curious how hard it is to do the manual wastegate at home until i have enough to call Bill Heath. Any suggestions are appreciated and thanks for letting be part of the forum.

Welcome! Lots of info on here.

Junkyard a working vac pump. The bailing wire and duct tape WG's will defuel the engine when it pisses off the ECM. Mainly to protect the engine from extreme IAT's during turbo overspeed that the factory asthma attack turbo will provide. The Heath TM is worth the money as it works decently. (I wouldn't bother with one again.)

Best bet it a better turbo to start messing with things. The factory turbo is a boat anchor that wastes fuel and generates extreme heat at any RPM over 2200.
 
Welcome. Turbo master is good, but like mentioned above a non gated turbo like ATT is better. They pay for themselves with fuel savings, and the added power is a freebie.
