New Army Proto type off road vehicle

Dose it almost looks like a Jeep and a Hummer together, or is it just me? Regardless I like it.

I dont see many spending countless hours PMCS'ing those things on motorpool days writing the same deficiencies down on the 2404...or 5988, or whatever they use now...

A for effort though.

PMCS HA HA HA, you know Soldiers these days. There not gonna PMCS that thing. Also that truck if it goes into service will probably be shipped straight to Iraq and Afgan and never seen state side expect for testing.

wtf are you talking about, we pmcs'ed our hmmwv's daily and pre-patrol in afghanistan and iraq, also repaired them both on patrol and back at the fob.

then again, there's something to be said for having "Set the standard for others to follow"

That has got to be one of the most useless looking vehicles ever, I can't tell it's size but looks very vulnerable in the front end the Hummers hunker down and the drivetrain is protected everthing on that is just hangin down. The Hummer will be around for a long while,

Not to get off topic, but there are a lot of differences between regular Army Soldiers and Rangers, Special Forces, Airborne, Air Assault so on. A whole lot of different discipline levels.

well I beat up my joes and fellow TL's about PMCS when I moved to alaska... last thing we needed was a stryker turned pillbox on a patrol...

vehicle crews don't like the threat of a 20 mile roadmarch if I could find a operator level problem with it, or if it was ever deadlined due to operator level maintanance not being performed.

Only had to do it once, too.

Ya'll realize that Humvee & variants are powered by the venerable 6.5 "dead dinosaur" engine guess when something works makes sense to keep a good thing going.

Let hope some knee jerk politico does not try to load it down with a bunch of armor, if lightweight & mobile is the goal so you may have to sacrifice some protection, WWII Jeeps were agile & mobile but not armored, got folks in & out of harms way fast, Hummer when built/used for that purpose was not bad deal either even with a 6.2 powerplant.

The 6.2 & 6.5 started having "issues" when they started making them try to do more than they were designed for, look at many who have upgraded Landcruisers to 6.2/6.5, even Jeeps work well with the 6.2/6.5, were knocking on door of 300 rwhp performance in our "old 6.5 trucks", mine has enough guts now to pull 18K loads.

If you feel the need of something for armored protection transport give the troops a vehicle designed from day one to be armored, ie Stryker APC's, want fast maintainable all terrain go with this type of mobility vehicle or Hummer in original lightweight mobility profile.

Good point. Beat up enough and threaten to make them walk and they will do what is right the first time especially in that Iraq heat.

Throw in a d-Max, it'll last! I hope that 80* slope isn't very long, otherwise you have to have a lot of momentum to keep that from rolling endo down the hill.

As an active duty Army mechanic I can assure you that the vehicles in my motor pool are PMCS'd on a regular basis. For the most part soldiers aren't stupid, the majority of them seem to understand that PMCS is the best was to ensure their shit doesn't break down in the middle of Baghdad.

I still think I could break it.

Ex-tanker, we can break anything, just ask a mechanic. Heck, they created chem-lites just for us.
