I've read and read and I can't figure this out. My timing is desired 9.5 and actual 9.5 with the TDC offset at -2.02. What do I do? I am getting a TDC offset error. I am also getting a code 83: TCC Solenoid.(related or not?)

TDCO cannot change if:
- any other DTC is logged, current or history - you'll need to clear that DTC83 and any others, as well as the TDCO DTC to proceed
- ECT must be above 172*, 180-190* is good - IAT above 85*

TIMESET should be +3.5*, TIMING should be +8.5, not +9.5*
TDCO of -2.02* should not DTC

Typo? -2.20 sets a DTC

If you have a TDCO error and -2.20 you need to get the engine up to temp, clear all codes and rotate the pump towards the driver's side a touch....make sure all codes are clear and the ECT is 175*+ as gmctd already said and run a TDCO Learn....

I have hit the button to reset the codes but they do not go away. Truck was previously 9.1-9.1 -1.67. When I went to check if everything was still the same this is where I ended up at.

OBD1 requires TIMESET before TDCO LEARN - rotate the IP towards turbo to decrease timing (-) and TDCO - or - towards the power brake booster to increase timing (+) and TDCO - (~2.5mm = 5*) - after TIMESET when DESIRED\MEASURED TIMING reads correct, as in +8.5*, do TDCO LEARN, then exit and observe the new value: if not what you want, again do TDCO LEARN, slowly rev the engine up to ~1200-1500rpm and hold it steady, exit when you see the TDCO number you like: -1.5* to -1.94* - final numbers in this case should be +8.5* Desired\Measured timing, your choice between -1.5* to -1.94* TDCO...........................

jd - he is running Heath's chip....methinks he will find different timing numbers than the ones you have written....

My guess is you will find measured and actual at the 10.5* mark....

I'm running MaxETork also - the chip cannot vary the basic timing specs derived from mechanical IP position relative to crankshaft position - only the owner\hacker and timingtrain wear can do that - only the fuel rate curves within the timing specs can be adjusted with software, plus maybe the DESIRED timing within those specs - but never the MEASURED timing - I would doubt whether the TDCO relationship has been altered, also, as that is based on the camring ramping factor.

gmtcd i hope this note finds you well...i try not to say to,o,o much, it`s a case of,.. watch, listen, & learn,... what would we do with out you, your the ice-ing on the cake.. have a peaceful weekend...

You know were we need to go....

/Paul....

I wonder why my timing is 10.9 desired and actual with the HP4....

I see your Baro is way low, or you live way up a mountain, which is why PCM is calling for 96% w\g duty cycle, and could be why PCM wants 10.9* D\A timing at idle with ECT and IAT at normal operating temps

Desired Timing is what PCM is demanding within the lo\hi limits set by physical IP position as measured during TIMESET, and Measured Timing is the actual position of the Camring\Optic Sensor within the 11* mechanical limits of the IP housing - total Camring rotation is ~11* stop-to-stop, which is 22* crank - at 10.5* D\M timing, likely you've rotated\locked the IP further than what is considered acceptable - if you were to advance it even further TIMESET would faithfully report the new position to PCM - 'course, the engine might not start due to the extreme advance, and PCM would definitely set a DTC on TDCO LEARN - +10.5* Des\Meas timing indicates too much mechanical\physical advance to me - again, engine rpm can be increased so PCM sees varying advance positions and will display several values of TDCO within those limits determined during the TIMESET measurement - if you exit TDCO LEARN when you see your favorite number, PCM will lock that number in and use it from then on, at least, until the next time you get sweaty palms from thinking about all the neat stuff you can do to an OBD1 6.5 with GMTD Scan...................

With my HP4 i get this reading: 10.1 Des, 10.00 Mes, TDCO -1.67
Bravo:13.29 psi
Map : 14.01 psi
W/G :83.2%
Act IP Timing 32.47Deg*
Fuel rate Idle 7.5mm*
Engine Coolant temp was at 130F*& Intake Air temp was 51F*

I`m living 60deg* North of the Equator

What do you have Tim?

I am sure it is the HP4 that gives the 10ish degrees of timing...

OK I still don't get the timing and timeset. I have GMTDScan. Bill H told me to just set the TDCO and leave time set alone but here was my last screen shot because my actual is even higher and I'm running heath maxetorq ? Is it not set right ?

Wait I'm a putts. I was reading the screenshot I did at 1500 rpms. The one at idle was same as ChrisK with Heath V2

That's what I'm getting at Kenny....

Bill said to expect desired and actual to be above 8.5* (as tuned) and jd says something's wrong....

I would sure like to see Tim's numbers....got that laptop hooked up yet?
