As many of you know, Missy here is never happier than when she is a swapping rigs.

Recently I swapped the 91 Burb off for a 92 Explorer.
After DaHooolely was back on line the need for the Burb went away.
To keep Insurance on 4 rigs is not doable or necessary around here.

Soooooo back in Summer 2004 I bought a fairly nice 84 K5 Blazer diesel and drove it until I got the DaHooooley in summer 2007

Sold the K5 to a fellow who trades with my gun shop. His teenage daughter needed a rig and loves Blazers.

Long protracted story about the sale but of no matter.

A few days ago the same fellow was in the shop doing business and was telling me of the Blazers recent demise.

The little 6.2 took the big leave (Crank or ???? just lost power and locked up)

The rig was destined to be put to pasture.

Can't have a Diesel K5 going out to pasture.

I offered the 92 Explorer in trade for the Blazer and this is supposed to happen later today.

Fellow is trailering the Blazer over to my place

OOOOOOOOK

Now the plot thickens
I have an 87 Burb that came from another trade and will scavenge the good running 6.2 from that rig along with some sheet metal.

The Blazer had sustained some minor front fender damage and someone kicked a dent in the RH door (Likely a school kid thing where she was in school)

The sheet metal on the 87 Burb is pristine :smile5:
Burb has a fresh aluminum Radiator too.

Swap the front clip, Radiator, engine and the 3.73 axles into the Blazer :D

I am going to try and find a 90/91 GMC header support, grille, lights and such and make the thing look like a later Jimmy.

I have a real clean "Jimmy" tailgate that has all the right badges so there it is.

I still have a complete 6" lift kit and some 15X 10 alloy wheels that would look really great on the thing too..

Will need a complete paint job but that can wait a while.

The rig was Black and gray so all black would look nice or maybe all gray.

Hell could even do urban camo and be really different. ):h

Missy grabs her Fedora and Whip and heads off on yet another crusade.

I hope I can live through this one. Plans are easily made from the armchair.

Once the tools are out and the parts start coming off then it gets a bit different.

Well Missy you sound just as bad about old vehicles as i do. ):h I have a few "project" cars i'm working on when i have time, trying to get a '69 RS camaro finished up for about a year. Total frame-off re-do. But about 4 months ago i ran upon a original '76 Camaro, 350/T350 one owner car with 117K on the ticker. Couldn't stand to see it go to the junkyard, bought it for a little over 2K. Trailered it home, gave it a tune-up, changed all fluids & belts and it runs nice a smooth. Then i tore out the nasty interior and gave that a re-do. Last thing i needed was another project car, just ask my wife. :nonod: My 16 year old son is now drooling all over it, not a chance he'll be driving that anytime soon though. Now i have a total of 10 cars/trucks insured/licensed - i must be totaly crazy!!!

Missy's Fedora is grease stained and the whip has a few fan belt bites here and there too.

The Original goal was to find a noce clean K5 Diesel Blazer for my daily driver.

They never seem to materialize. Always something gets in the way.

I should never have sold the 84 in the first place but was thinking that the DaHooooley would be a great daily driver.

Really love the feel of a bigger rig but with the very short wheelbase and ease of getting into tight places the K5 is hard to beat.

The Only downside is of course the choppy ride on rough roads. OHHHHH WELLLLL.

A local fellow has a K5 that he has shortened the wheelbase on and the rear wheels are just as close to the front doors as he could get them and keep the door pillar.

He chopped the thing in half right behind the area where the top bolts on and thentook out a chunk and then put it all back together.

Strange little rig for sure. Cute but strange.

Will get some piccy's as soon as the rig come back, later today me thinks.

My wife doesn't see the point in buying a truck that needs work or doesnt run... :nonod: Its only been 9 months she still has time to change  (yeah right!)

Any day you get rid of a running Ford for a Chevy, running or not, is a good day!

Welcome to the rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford club. Who is going to sit in the driver's seat and make the noise while others push?

Yeah Buddy

Bottom line is this. An old rig in good shape costs very little as compared to a new one.
The huge $$$$ loss the first two years on a new rig is staggering.

An old rig that is in good condition will do the same job and one can sleep nights knowing that its paid for.

Age means nothing, condition is everything.

A good body and interior is the trick. Its easy to rebuild an engine/tranny or gearboxes.

Once the body and interior are shot then its an uphill battle of dubious outcome.

The last new rig I bought was back in 97. Never again.

The secret is this, when restoring an older rig, "The goal is not so much the end result, but instead the JOURNEY"

I am never happier than when I have a project going. Its good for the soul and it keeps the mind fresh and active. Oh and usually some scabs and bruises somewhere too.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE DI DIT DIT DIT DAH DIT DAH DIT DIT DIT

Blazer is home now and resting comfortably on life support.

Poor little creature was a tad beat when I owned it previously.
Now its a real ROACH.

The interior is gonna hafta be replaced in its entirety.

Seats, door panels and all the soft materials are gonna go into the trash.

Plan is still to replace the front clip with parts from an 87 Burb.

The last owners robbed the Multifunction switch from the column so I will use the complete column and stuff from the 87 Burb.

All on all, this should end up being a very nice little rig again.

The old style glow controller had stopped working, so the PO had plugged a push button switch in to operate the solenoid.

Probably install a new glow controller unit and get that stuff working right again.

Its a bit rough but certainly can be brought back to life.

First order of business will be to get the engine out and find out what happened to it.

The engine is reportedly "STUCK" so I hope that I can get it to move enough to be able to unbuckle the flex plate bolts.

If not, its gonna get ugly to get the tranny and engine separated.

Anyway. Onward and forward we go.

Here are a few Piccy's of the little beast.

The Pix of the rig in front of the theater was taken back when I owned it before (2004) The other two pix were taken this morning at home.

If you go that direction, I know who will buy your old grille. :smile5:

Once the '93 is on the road, my rusty but trusty '84 will get a new body.:eek:

Its all about the potential! Seeing through the rust or bad engine/tranny and seeing yourself sitting in a sweet ride when its all said and done.

Im certainly not young any more (58) and I'm still in there "Chasing the dream", Or maybe it's "In search of Eldorado"

Yessss for sure, I know that in many places this truck would be considered "CHERRY"
There is only one small spot on the Drivers side inner rocker with a rust through.

Truck sat for 6 years before I bought it the first time. Sat slightly leaning to the RH side and the area under the door just outside the seal accumulated water and dirt and it laid in there and rusted it through.

No biggy to fix it.

All the typical places that these rust are sound as a rock. (No salt here).

The grille is certainly available for sale.

thats what i say but they all say its a "pig in a poke".......does that show that they are old ):h

Has very little to do with age. Determined more by if the person is a right or left brain thinker. Some folks can't find their way to their car in a parking lot--when they parked it there! How could you expect them to "imagine" what a vehicle "will" look like----they can't see it when it's already there?

Man is weird (well, women to). You also have an eye that is dominate! Right or left.

You can extend your arms out beyond your nose. Open you hands facing away from you. Overlap your thumbs to the point your forefinger will cross. Now, find an object on a wall 8-10 ft. away and look at it with one eye closed. Then close that eye and open the other. Can you still see the object? The eye you could see the target without moving your arms is dominate.

So you see left eye dominate folks shooting a rifle right handed. They have their head way over the stock to see the sights.

Now you know more then you ever asked for!!

UPDATE

Had a little road trip today.

Drove from Newberg Oregon to Yacolt Washington and back.

Got a lovely Blazer hard top, a windshield and a spare tire carrier (inside factory type)
ALL for FREE.

The top is near perfect with intact side glass too.

It came from a 1978 K5 and had never been off until just a few weeks ago when they scrapped the truck out.

Lovely day today and the drive was enjoyable. 120 miles total.

I have another complete top lined up too but they guy wants $50 for it.

The only reason he took it off was that he wanted a Black one ?????????

Going to pick that top up too if it turns out to be good and then sell the one off my 84 Project K5 as it is not perfect.

The old top would make a good one for someone who "Wheels" the hell out of their Blazer and dont care much.

Now its off to dig up a 91 Jimmy or GMC Burb grille and core support.

Oh my what can Missy get into now. ?????//

UPDATE

Went shopping today at the U Pull It yard

Bad day at that place. Everything I found had been molested badly and loads of stuff just ripped off and ruined.

Called a small truck yard out in the sticks I get into from time to time.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs  Scored a complete front clip off a 90 Burb.

We removed the grille to keep it from getting damaged in the move home.

Got it all complete with wiring, lights, inner fenders, rubber splash shields and the factory bumper too. $250

Also scored a lovely wood grained dash bezel for $20

Well as I was typing this, a fellow whom I had dealt with previously called me up and he has a set of PERFECT Burb doors with the electric mirrors.

These are the mirrors that came only in 89-90-91 and look like the ones installed on the GMT400 trucks.

These doors are complete even with the door panels and switches.

Only bum deal is that I have to take all 4 doors

Dont need the rears, but they will sell.

$160 for the 4 doors complete so not too bad.

Just hope that I can find enough parts in good order to put this little creature together.

Going to be a Calico cat for a while.

The doors are dark blue with Blue upholstery so this will work ok.

Blue door panels, gray seats and a brown dash so far. OMG what a Maltese Mutt this is gonna be.

OH and with a Gray and white front clip, Black and gray Body and a white top.

OMG. Hurry get the paintgun.

Getting excited now, I AM :D

OH here are some piccy's of the New front clip.
