This is a local truck. I took a look at it this afternoon, runs mint but still has the original Inj. I did get the printout of whats been done since the truck was new. Give me a hand with what it's worth if you can. The owner is open to offers.

What the pics don't show is all the paint chips on the rockers and on the tailgate. The rims are also peeling like mad and the drivers seat has a small rip where they all do. Thanks.

Feels like the miles are high for the money. You will have to change the turbo MP, injector harness repair, FPR may need replaced, ISS issues, and the major work it hard overheating issue. Worth 2-3K off the asking price for repairs. Injectors go when they go and are not a mileage thing on this year.

FPR was never really a huge problem on LLY trucks. Turbo mouth pieces did not HAVE to be replaced. I never replaced mine. Injector harness can be fixed with a 3" piece of rubber tubing to slide under the wire harness, fixing the problem in all of 1 minute. Injectors were never an issue with those either. ISS, yes, but that pretty much plagued all generations.

And not all LLY trucks overheated. I ran the dog shit out of mine while living in Louisiana at the time, towing plenty and never had an issue, all while running a 90 h.p. tune. I seriously doubt that he can work it hard enough to make it run hot up in Manitoba. And lastly, 155k miles is not bad mileage for that truck. I would agree that it could be sold for $15k.

LLY's have been proven to be good trucks.

Thanks for the input guys. The owner just replaced the ISS, idler arm and tie rods, shocks and a few other things to pass our Manitoba safety. This safety is needed in order to register and put a plate on the truck. I also feel the price is a bit high so we'll see where this goes.

Bidding ended, and it appears that it didn't get sold on e-bay, lol, but here's my $.02.

None of the things War Wagon listed have been issues on our 05 over the past 80k. Injectors aren't a common problem, and we've never had over heating issues on our 05, even when towing over GVWR in near 100* temps. The mouthpiece is more of a performance mod unless it's prone to breaking that I'm not aware of. Since the ISS was fixed you shouldn't have issues, but it's not a safety issue, it's just annoying. There are no documented occurrences of it breaking.

This is a local truck, and the owner is giving me the first shot at it if it didn't sell on Ebay. I should know in a week or so if I'll be making an offer to purchase. Thanks for your input Ed.

I wouldn't be scared of the injectors. Outside the valve covers, easier to change if the time comes.

IIRC that GMC that I saw on ebay with 750k was an 05 LLY and the guy had never done anything but routine maintenance on it. Granted it was 99% highway miles with "empty" campers on it, but that's still a lot of miles, lol.

As far as its issues: I think your best bet will be to scuff the rockers and shoot them and part of the bottom of the door with some bedliner. Cheap, easy and looks great. Throw a set of steps on and some new mudflaps to prevent it from happening again.

Rims can be stripped and polished, or you could take the H2's off your 97 if you have your stock wheels yet, and throw them on the D-max (Hint, hint do that now b4 the insurance runs off with it).

I don't think you'll have any problems with it, if you do get it.

Update: The owner still has the '05 LLY. He told me that he got the balance rates checked at a GM dealer and 1 inj. needs to be changed. He says the cost will be around $500. We are close to making a deal I think.

Question is, should I be worried that more injectors will need to be changed in the near future? Or what are the chances that it only needs 1 replaced? Should I run..or take a chance here?

Gerald if the price is right I don't think you can go wrong. Injectors needing replacement on these is rare and doing 1 isn't a big deal.

$500 is a bit steep to do 1 injector in an LLY. I believe they cost about $350-400 for a new one(about $285-325 for a rebuilt one), and they say it takes less than an hour to change 1 out as they are outside the valve covers on an LLY. Also an important note on an LLY is you must use the GM TECH 2 to check balance rates as the V2 has been proven to be mismarked as to which injector is which as far as the numbers go. And being the injectors are outside the valve cover if another needs to be done they are easy to get to. And LLY's suffer from the injector 5&7 wires chafing so it may just be a chafed wire making intermittent or porr connection causing the balance rate to be off.

I forgot that this part can throw off balance rates. I believe it's 2 & 7 though and also the end connectors. As Nick pointed out it's a REAL simple fix.

A truck like that goes or 16-17 in this area. I got my LBZ near those prices too due to a couple dings and scratches.

I have a friend with a truck identical to that and he gave 16,500 iirc and it was in worse shape than that. He did the injector harness mod talked about above after I reccomended it to him and his injector balance rates went back within spec.

Took the truck for a test drive today. It's not my 6.5 thats for sure.

Question for all of you that own a d-max...when I would slow down, it seemed to be braking a little. I felt like it didn't roll as free to a stop like my 6.5. The owner says it's normal for the allison. Is this true?

I'm hoping to make a deal this week :)

The ALLISON has alot more engine breaking effect since it has the ability for true engine breaking unlike the 4L80E that unlocks whenever you let off the throttle to protect the fragile hollow input shaft. Also the breaks are night and day difference between the 2 trucks, so it takes quite a bit less pedal effort to engage the breaks in teh newer truck.

There is a big difference between the allison and 4l80. NO DOUBT

I too thought something was wrong when I drove my Dmax and 6.5x4l80 back to back.

The Dmax/Allison (or 8.1/A for that matter) combo slows down in a hurry in normal mode. Did you try it in TH? Love the grade braking feature when towing or when driving in the mountains out west.
