they truck did not fail you, if you had taken care of the trans after adding the power to it and towing the overweight loads you would not have that problem. I pushed my old lbz way harder than that, budget built trans with alto clutches, precision converter, and a transgo jr held double-over (6th gear) at a hair over 30,000# trailer weight of 21,500 and truck weight off 9,000+
you want to pull big loads that the engineers didn't design the truck for you have modify it so it will. If you were at stock power levels and used the tranny to climb the hill (before you damaged the tranny) i bet a transgo jr and converter would hold that weight all day if you were not abusive. A 6.5 will never out perform what an LBZ allison combo can do.
