When our trucks are out on the road they stand out a little bit. The tell tell signs of the 6.5 on the hood, the vented front bumper, the slightly larger exhaust, and the rattle and humm of the V8 diesel. On the occasion one ends up in the junk yard the engine, hood, and bumpers are usually the first parts to go. Is there a VIN # I need to watch for or some other distinguishing signs?

Umm, it'll say "diesel fuel only" by the fuel gauge 
If the dash, engine, hood, bumper, etc. are missing,
most of the rest is not diesel specific

And I'd have thought a lack of knowledge combined with a PMD failure would have put some of these gals to bed too early.
Yep diesel only. I have an extra one $95 shipped in USA
Also diesels should have fuel caps that say "diesel" on them and the sticker on the fuel door says "Diesel fuel only"

just look at the pedal, all the gas engines in these trucks use cables.

Ive never seen the 6.5td stickers on any truck or suburban, did they put them on their? Ive seen the stickers on like ebay that you can buy.....

Yeah but it's nice when you want to put cruise control in a truck that doesn't have it and all you have to do is add a switch or change the TS stalk and put the fuse in. Try that with a throttle cable. DBW is ok as long as it's not a Toyota.....):h
