So a year ago, I had 2 friends that also had dmax's. One 05 LLY and an 07LBZ so we all swapped mods and helped eachother maintain the trucks. Well in the end mine is the only one that survived, the 05 lost the tranny after I rebuilt the Tcase from pump rub, he detuned and sold it for 13K with 70K on the truck. The 07 had a tranny that limped bad so the owner (not very logically thinking) ran it on the hottest tune he had to try and fully KO the tranny, he split a piston and shoved a rod out the block @ 50K. Mine was the old whore of the group but ITS STILL CHUGGIN.

I got my tierod sleeves and braces from one of the guys that never got around to installing them (07 guy) and he has a brand new AD165 that he ran 2 days while on the hot tune, last year he asked if I wanted to buy it for $50 under retail and i said no I'll buy new for that price. This morning he called me up after we passed eachother on our morning runs (I had hay, he had pipe) and asked if I would buy it for $500 w/ his HID set up that never got installed, WELL SURE! He said he might have his race valve too but couldnt remember, is the race valve worth it?

On other news! I have been runing on stock and the only time I limp is in 2nd gear pulling hills on back roads which I can handle/work around, otherwise I throw P0087. Now that I have the fuel issue on the way to getting fixed, is there a Optimised stock tune w/ fairly aggressive towhaul settings and turbo brake and EGR Delete in the tuning library?

The guy with the 05 bought a 09 Crew Cab Dually F350 6.4L w/ 30K, did deletes and dyno'd over 500HP, Tranny lasted 2 more weeks (he is a work over rig boss and grosses 32K with his camper), he split a cylinder wall a month later due to a clogged intake runner on that cylinder from EGR soot, and now has a fully built engine. Also bought a 08 Single cab 4x4 6.4L w/ low miles and did the deletes right this time w/ a full intake and up pipe kit, it can move!

The 05 guy now has a 06 5.9L Crew Cab Dually 6speed, its a slick truck for now. HAHA Both guys love to blow smoke.

Do the trans. if you add ANYTHING to it with already fried C4's, your asking for trouble. Sounds like you put to much to it in 6th gear. I wouldn't bother with the race valve, shim it if it pops on you. As for the P0087, you may be needing to save up for injectors. Here over the last 2 years the newer injectors have been starting to go and throwing the P0087 code a lot more.

Ive never towed in 6th unless it was a light bumper pull (3-4K) or hauled a bale of hay (2k tops). I do cruise at ~55mph in 6th alot, maybe I put too much torque on it in that gear. Ive always tried not to load it hard in any gear over 4th, I do most of my towing in 4th (fuel issue mainly).

Now for the injectors, my balance rates are good for 220K but I know I have read more threads than I care to think about of LBZ high return rates. I was honestly hoping to just mask the problem for awhile and swap out/repair the stock fuel filter and shim the return valve.

In other words, my tranny is a sunk duck, and a EFI Live tune wont help? The only 2 hills I have issues on are rolling through the local small mountain range w/ #19K swather loaded on a #8K trailer. I have to nearly come to a complete stop before I get to the hill and creep up the hill. If I am in 1st gear I break traction in the gravel or if in 2nd I limp, but 1st in 4x4 is doable.

Ive really never raced the tuck, just trying to fend off a couple idiots on occasion. Most of the trucks wear and tear is towing.

The deal with LBZ's is they normally don't pop the rail valve, that was mainly an LLY issue(LLY's popped just north of 23,800 whereas LBZ's ran stock pressures right around 25,000). Adding a lift pump and an extra fuel cooler has helped some people with it. Balance rates tell virtually nothing when it comes to high return rates, only a return rate test will tell you. And your trans is done. The only thing EFILIVE can do to help it is to detune your engine to even less HP, but it will STILL fail on you eventually. The ALLISON is a hydraulically controlled electrically shifted trans. Nothing you can do in the tuning will help it hold more power, only change when it shifts. Save your money and pull the trans out and fix it, that is really your only option with it.

Lift will help the code in a way you may not expect. Looks like there is a hose that collapses under suction with high load/heat by the transmission. Needs a special hose to replace it. GM BULLETIN #PIP4526.

A plastic wix fuel filter leaking air at the WIF sensor caused this for me.

I replaced the hose after reading one of ferm's posts and only run old style acdelco filter.

Get yourself a lift pump. I feel that it was a great fuel mod that I did to my truck. Although I baby the truck, and drive very conservatively, I am very satisfied with the double Kennedy Diesel lift pumps.

I've got an ad 165 that needs installed. I drive conservatively but have issues towing.

I never had the p0087 code until I had the problems with the cp3 and injectors. What was strange, was it happened abruptly. never gave me a low pressure code, just died.
But I did end up putting a lift pump (Fass 150) on with the bigger pickup tube in the tank. Now I dont have to really worry about fuel pressure unless theres a leak, and I have additional filtration (which is never a bad idea).
Im pretty sure my truck was pretty abused by the PO, but this thing runs damn strong now with new injectors and cp3 and lift pump. Even with a stock tune!

In the end, a lift pump is always a good idea (especially if it has extra filters).

I need a LP but I need $1000 worth of new tractor tires worse. If Tanner felt sorry for me he would give me the one he hasn't installed yet... :D

:hihi:

Well i could use tires on my tractor too but I don't need my tractor if I can't haul it to the field.

I've had the low rail psi since I got the truck and it only does it under full throttle or with a heavy trailer, it doesn't shut off just kicks me into low psi limp 2k rpm tops.

Nope, your truck looks too nice! Haha. Just trade me trucks and we can work something out. I'll even throw in 2 tractor tires of your choice!

Been working on quotes for tranny builds today, I have the 3k from hail damage I can use (needs to run good more than look good). How can I get ahold of Mike L? Is he inglewood transmission?

I want one built to handle anything a stock engine or one with small turbo and injector upgrade. I wont do injectors or turbo as long as I am working it like I am but I want room to grow later.

Just had a nice long chat with Mike L. He called me after 5, his time, IM IMPRESSED ALREADY. Then he goes into details on the trans and my hand cant scribble fast enough to keep up with the info. Good guy great price, I want one (trans that is)! 600-700HP trans w/ Dave Georend billet tripple disc converter for $4800.

Hope to have 2 trannies heading my way by the end of the month! A built 4L80 and converter from NY and Mike L Special from Cali. Time to start getting my power back to the ground!

Lift pump can help with the P0087, but more and more are finding bad injectors causing the issue moreso than anything else. It will not hurt the truck to have one so long as it is a flow on fail pump so if it does quit working you don't go dead in the water. The P0087 while towing has been linked to injectors returning to much fuel when fuel temps are hot which is normally an injector or 2 going. This why many have added a 2nd fuel cooler to help keep fuel temps under 190 or so which seems to be the magic number where the P0087 seems to begin to happen a lot.

I might try to watch the fuel temps on my edge monitor, see what they show. Never thought of fuel temps causing the fuel to thin out and cause issues, well not as bad as what I feel mine are but over time I bet the effects of hot fuel are more noticable w/ wear. I consider 220K miles towing WEAR.

Does anyone have any input on the price of the tranny or any comparable models? I just know my local guys are 1yr 100K warrenty for 5500 w/ cheapo converters.
