At what mileage would you guys recommend the switch to synthetic in a new truck?
Thanks,
Dan
My truck now has 14k on it and towing season for the RV is firing up.
I want to do both diff's and transfer case for now. I think it's too early to do the tranny (did the filter).
Can someone please tell me what are the best synthetics to use and quantities I want to buy?
Also, can these systems be flushed out to remove the new truck shavings?
If you're looking for a good "how to" see this link on the other site.

I changed my rear diff at around 15000 with just some 75/90 I got from Autozone for around $5 a gallon and added a package of the limited slip stuff. Works fine and I have towed my 7K lb trailer. Now that I have 22K miles I'm switching to Schaeffers 293 gear oil in both front and rear diffs. Just bought a case of 12 quarts direct from Schaeffer.
I'm also running their 9000 synthetic in the engine since my last change at 17500 miles. I had been losing 1 quart every 4000 miles before and now have not lost any. (Likely cure was the PCV reroute I did at the same time and not the oil.
Based on information I've read on other sites, the manufacturer of the transfer case actually recommended the use of 3 quarts of 5W-30 in the transfer case and not ATF. I'm going to put the Schaeffers 5W-40 in it when I change the diffs.
