Bought a new D-tech and 6 foot extension harness, pulled off the old
cooler that I had mounted on the intake, drilled and tapped holes inside
bumper (PITA to access) drilled and tapped the cooler so I could have the
D-tech and Stanadyne mounted side by side, so I'd have an easy backup,
ran the extension cable nice and neat, tie wrapped in place, and NO START!!
Moved the wire from the D-tech to the Stanadyne, still nothing. Unbolted
the cooler from inside of bumper (did I mention it's a PITA?) plugged the
D-tech in directly, started right up. So it's back mounted on the
intake, got to call the vendor tomorrow for another harness. I'm sure the
D-tech would be fine if I left it there, it's rated for more heat than the
S'dyne, but I worked too hard to give up now!
The point to this rambling story is, plug in the extension harness and
try it before you go thru all the trouble I did.

On the bright side Tookie, you should have it in the bumper anyhow. Now it will be easier when you get the new harness.:smile5:

If you have any non-fixable grief with the harness, you might want to call Leroy at PMDcable.com (since he is a vendor here and all... )

Got it from a reputable vendor, I'm sure I won't have a problem,
price on PMD was outstanding, cable was very competitive, didn't
want to order from 2 different places...... and since Leroy doesn't
sell PMDs........

Yep - I hear ya. Just thought I'd suggest it, 'cause I wasn't sure about the first vendor.

I really hate ordering from different places, too... makes it so hard to figure out which part was at fault if something goes wrong...

tried running a seperate ground from heatsink to intake by original connector?? or any ground to heatsink?

I removed the heatsink from the bumper and layed it on the valve cover,
with extension harness plugged in, it wouldn't run. I unplugged the extension,
and plugged the PMD, still mounted to the sink, laying on the valve cover,
directly to the pump wire harness and it started right up. It's definitely
not a ground problem.

have you ohm'd the harness to make sure the pinout is correct and/or all wires have continuity? on grounding, my homemade harness did not work until I attached a ground to the heatsink fins. have you tried using the harness to connect the existing pmd?

I confess that when 'remoting' the FSD from the 'burb, I used Kennedy's harness and did pretty much the same thing as you did, Tookie. Only thing is, mine fired up right away. It's still there, 3 years later, working as well as always.

I should have checked it out, just as you should have. Thanks for the words to the wise.

Who did you get the harness from ? If it's like Heaths with the double pins it's a PIA to get the pins lined up. I thought i had mine in right but one was off. Does the plug that goes into existing harness the right end for it or is it the same end wth little pins and shrinkwrap ?

but mostly a harness problem no?
One time I had a no start issue when remote mounting a PMD. I realized I just plug the harness the wrong way. I just unplugged it, rotate 180°, re-plug and she started right away.
Your extension is may be not wired properly, or get a loose connection----

Harness had a male and female end, as far ae I can tell it only goes one way

You've never met my brother-in-law, have you :)
Saying in this part of the country is - If it ain't broke give it Jim - It soon will be!

Got the replacement harness this morning, pulled the cooler off the intake,
plugged the extension into the truck, and the D-tech into the extension,
fired right up! 30 minutes later, I had it mounted back in the bumper
nostril, tomorrow I'll send back the bad harness :smile5:
