How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Well boys
The trip was a success, the fuel guage came back after I filled it to the brim and began driving, not sure how that happened, either way, i bought a Jerry can, not taking chances.

Below you'll find photos of the trip, the K5 did wonderful, the other cars on the trip (2024 Chevy Impala and Ford Maverick) had to refuel multiple times, I made it on one tank from SD to Minneapolis.

My MPG during my trip there and back:

Absolutely insane how much of a difference there is, and this was with me still doing 80-95MPH on the way there.

The only difference between my last trip there and now was the weather, it was warm back then, this time it was close to freezing.

I need a cold air intake or something, clearly the numbers show for themselves, my performance and fuel economy with one would be game changing.

any thoughts/suggestions?

What you're experiencing is the "wintertime intercoler". I don't have much experience with the pre- GMT400 rigs but you should be able to fit something in the core support or between the frame rails. A first gen duramax intercooler fits in the GMT400 core suppport with just a little cutting and are way cheaper than the 2nd gen cummins intercooler which also fits

the cooler the air the more condensed it is plus higher humidity helps too. you were getting enriched air.

on the fuel gauge, it's possible it's got a bad spot where once the level reaches the failed area on the float level sensor the gauge drops out.

If you want the best version of it, look into: Water to air intercoolers.
Cost more performs more.
Colder air is more condensed oxygen. More oxygen lets you burn the fuel you have more efficient. And if you smash the fun pedal now even more fuel gets burned more efficiently so more zoomie-zoom.
When ya drive all smooth like officer unhappy is behind you- then the mpg climbs from it.

the additive is mainly to restore lost compression and oil consumption through the rings in the case of blowby. if your engine is running good, no blow by I would just leave it with the oil and no additives.
Ive put the cap on the oil tube upside down and it doesn't move or anything, I'd assume that means its a okay?

Only considering it because of this comment, i will say, no blowby but man does she smoke on start up (granted, for a little only)

So you get the one for 8 cylinder. It’s 1 quart so you just add it when doing your next oil change and use it in place of a quart of oil.
Drive truck as normal. Do your next oil change with your regular oil.

If you want to play mechanical scientist- do a compression test before the oil change and write down numbers. Then run the Restore the full 3,000 miles and do the next oil change. At that time do another compression test to compare.

There have been some people that said they didn’t notice anything but never did a compression test. Some folks show the compression test made definite improvements. Others never do the test but can feel the difference

It’s a coin flip if it will help. There are other things that cause the smoking- over fuel especially like from bad injectors. But getting the mpg you said you did- they aren’t bad.
You said the smoke smells like diesel fuel so 8 don’t expect engine oil or coolant either.

So low compression is the only thing I figured, hence the suggestion of Restore can. And it it’s a lifter piston in the lifter making a tick- the restore helps with that the same way.

If you’re ok with leave it as is- then leave it.
The Restore was the lowest cost and least invasive action.

Lowkey tempted to do it, is it.any harm if its not warranted but one still does it?

None that I have found. I put it in each of my vehicles. The only one I haven’t is the tahoe we bought at auction and I am about to yank that engine 100% apart anyways. I have two Toyota v6, i had a tiny improvement in mpg on one 0.1 mpg, never measured the other one.
I haven’t heard of anyone having any issues from it.
And when you realize you are replacing a quart of oil with it so you save that money- it is kinda free.

Oh, a 2001 dodge 5.9 gas engine in a pickup with 180,000ish miles- it got 0.2 better mpg and no other effects.

Well boys,

Spoke to my boy about an intercooler or even cold air intake setup, if yall have any suggestions, id be highly appreciated.

If i could replicate that cold air scenario and have that mileage as much as I can, itd be a game changer.

For reference, down below is my engine bay, and the space between my grill and support

Speaking of grille, I need to find a winter cover for it, the cardboard trick isnt doing it anymore....any suggestions on squarebody ones would be nice aswell

Thanks again yall

My weakness. Speed

I grew up on sports/luxury cars, I was an avid participant in the NYC car scene, during the pandemic, those streets, highways, etc were hours. People were drag racing down the Brooklyn Bridge, going from the Bronx to Brooklyn in less than 25 minutes(takes two hours due to traffic, if driving like a normal person), i mainly got this square since I know how much insurance/car payments for such vehicles are, and, it would have gotten me in so much trouble out here, these cops actually care, not like the NYPD.

That and it looked cool, my friend with the Squarebody Suburban said hed help me, and stated how a diesel gets infinate more miles than his does (he barely gets 9 to the gallon)

So theres that yall, the growing up on luxury cars part is why it messed with my family back home as to why I bought this thing, given my cars growing up
