Already had to replace both front tires and only went down the road in it and lifted 1 bale. My typical new tractor luck

Tractor drivers in training

Thanks everyone, I think I'll enjoy the tractor. I was really shooting for a mfwd of the same size bit there haven't been any good deals so I just bought the best deal on a clean tractor I could find. When I replaced the front tires I went a size wider for floatation and I am seriously considering going to 42" rears for some extra road speed.

Tanner, were the new front tires 11.00x16 or 14.00x16?

I just picked up a fairly clean old IH 1086 that will mostly do CRP mowing & maybe ~50 acres tillage to establish some new CRP ground. When I replace the fronts tires, might go a bit bigger a little for flotation & also to improve the ride.

They are 14L 16.1's 12ply I think. Helps to tube them if going on a regular 16" wheel.

Thanks Tanner. Very sharp MX!

Think I'll scout the salvage yards for '88 series front rims. Hadn't noticed the 14L rims were 16.1 - not exactly 16's. Guessing going to 10 inch wide rims is a good idea to any ride benefit even if I just go from 10.00 to 11.00x16's.

Do you have any brand preference? Been decades since around tractors daily; I'm told lots more poor quality implement tires out there these days.

I bought american farmers. Iirc Firestone's are around 500/tire and the american farmers were about 130/tire.

The wheels have the same back spacing from 1086's up to the earl MX series and Magnums. They used the same front axle design for a long time.

Thanks. So sounds like 8 bolt, 16x10.00 rims from any of those should work best for 11.00 x 16 - guessing my 1086 probably has 6" rims with it's current 10.00x16 tires. I'm compiling a parts/upgrades shopping list before I hit the Ag salvage yard. Wonder what they'd charge for an air suspension seat out of the newer tractors?

Buddy of mine wanted air ride in his buggy. While was helping him swap in a new rearend to his 71 1500, I commented about using his old air bags for his airride. After the axle job, we mounted them to his seat frame and home made base plate. Used 1/2" pipe inside of 3/4" pipe as guide for the front corners, 1/2" on base and 3/4" to the seat. Also drilled a few holes in the pipes so if he wants he can pin at mutiple heights and kill the air.

On a tractor you might be able to use an old air shock.

On the seat id go to your local dealer and see what they do with the old seats they pull out. I got 2 out of Big 4x4 9170's and put them in my allis 7050 and 7060, just needed seat covers the suspension part was still decent.

Nice tractor.
At first, the girls will be fighting on which one gets to drive. Later, it will be a fight to which one is not going to drive te tractor. :);)
