I read that a while back, yet GMC and Chevy are still printing on the window sticker that the heavy duty trucks have a Allison 10 speed. Just look at a 2026 window sticker. Lies and deception by GM, trying to fool buyers. GM has had some serious issues lately, engine problems, transmission problems. Would be hard for me to go dump over 50000 on a new one. Guess I'll keep my 2006 2500HD on the road as long as I can. It's got the tried and true Allison 1000 in it, plus the good ole LBZ Duramax.
Let's just hope the transmission designs dont become victim to bean counter slashes like what happened when GM decided a few corners getting cut on Detroit Diesel's design on a particular diesel V-8 was adequate.
it all sums up in the line from the first post:
“…the reality is that the Allison partnership has been mostly a branding exercise since 2020, when GM introduced its HD 10-speed automatic—which, let's be honest, owes more to Ford than it does Allison”
Ford & Gm went in together on making “improvements” and cost reductions to the Ford 10 speed trans already in development. Researching it’s issues will bring up videos & writings of an ex-gm engineer who knows about tons of the problems with it and is releasing fixes for it.
Allison has had nothing to do with the new transmission but they were already tied in contact w/ gm and couldn’t get gm to not use their name on trucks or that don’t have their transmission. So they are just letting the contract expire out.
Reading about the known issues and the approach of profit over quality- I have ZERO interest in owning one of their 10 speeds. Every version has issues and the amount of issues along with the amount of issues is not getting better with time but worse.
The actual Allison transmissions are great. They saved and enabled the advancement of diesel engines. They been making 10 speeds autos for diesels for years- in semi trucks. I wish they could just make a miniature version of it that is non electronic. I would spend huge money for one of those.
