Do you maintain your ride?

make sure they're good filters.

I use AC Delco filters. Used Mobil 1 filters for a long time, but for what I was paying for them ($10.00), I just don't think that they made that much of a difference over the OEM ones, and I made the switch back AC D.

I have bought Baldwin oil filters by the case, but lately I wait until one of the chain stores offer Mobile 1 turbo diesel 5qts. and a Mobile 1 filter on sale so I've a backup supply of the Mobile and Baldwin filters. So far I've stayed with the Allison brand filter, and OEM fuel filter and air filter. Cat fuel filter for the Nicktane.

I swing by the Allison shop we have in the Tri-Cities for spin-ons, my oil filters are Amsoil EaO52, my fuel filters are Donaldson brand from Amsoil.

At work, a salesman from a lube company stops by and they are an Allison Dealer. He delivers the filters and so far 10 gallons of Transynd for me and gives me a good price.

Just got my dual bypass filtration system from Amsoil. I will be installing that today. It will make filter changes easier and also allow longer drain intervals on my oil.

How many miles do you typically put on a set of filters and do you change your oil when analysis tells you to or do you change that based on mileage also?
Thanks.

I have been doing 10,000 mile changes with no analysis, but since I use synthetic, I wanted to get the most out of it, which is the reason for getting the Bypass. Since I have that, I will probably go to 15,000 as a rule, but also do analysis. My truck does a lot of towing and gets about 20,000 a year put on her, so I will use OA at about 10k-12k.

5K for oil, filter, lube and tire rotation.

10K for fuel, inspect air filter.

i check my oil fairly often, mainly to watch for fuel in the oil. if i have been towing hard, or my oil is especially dark earlier than for my scheduled change, i'll change it earlier.

High School Shop Class

About 35 years ago in Shop Class I tore some Skin off my Knukles.........
some Oil & Blood somehow became entertwined ;) My kidneys will not filter out the Oil,tranny fluid or any other Auto Fluids , That have been absorbed through the skin or fumes that have been sucked deep into my Lungs....
Ahhh that beutifull smell of Gear Oil;)
I guess it's better being addicted to your Ride than the other Alternative Vices out there.....seeing i just completed the FPR install last week, I'm in need of another Fix here Shortly...........I'M Hooked ;)

huh?:eek:ut:

I do every thing myself, I let the dealer take care of warranty work only but that ended at 36K so now its all me. I like Amsoil products, engine and diffs but I stayed stock on the tranny and T-case. I add Power Service at every fill up.

X2

LOF's
All filters
All mods so far.

I let Les Schwab rotate my tires unless I'm bored.

Excatly

i do my own because i don't trust anyone at a dealership with my truck. i trust good diesel shops - but i can't afford them.

oil + filter @7,500
fuel filter @15,000
tranny filter @10,000
tire rotation @10,000
tranny fluid @...... truck has 40K on it and hasn't been changed yet. procrastinating since 25K...:queasy:

^^ What he Said X 4 to the second power to Infinety ^^

I do all my own maintenance. I sometimes hate doing it just because I work on everybody elses stuff all day long, but for the most part I like it. Oil/Filter/Grease every 3,000 on all 3 vehicles. At the same time I check every thing possible front to back top to bottom. If I find something getting wore I fix it cause it isn't gonna get better.

I do all my own unless like said previously the job at hand requires a special tool. On that note the shop i take it to for that kind of work, i will drive my truck into the shop watch them work on it when they are finsihed i go over the work as best as i can and drive my truck out. No one gets to drive my truck, not trying to sound like an ass or anything, but i did pay for it, it is mine and if i can help it i say who where and when someone else will get to touch it.:reddevil: That and i dont like most of the shops around me. Also i maintain the truck pretty religously so everything get changed a little earlier than what the schedule calls for. Amsoil throughout

Hey I have drove all your trucks okay I haven't driven the 71 yet but it is just a matter of time. Me and my old man do all our own work samething my trucks get driven by me and only the people I trust, which is well not many, sisters truck just doesn't get any work done tell there is a problem first fuel filter went on at about 80,000 miles when the truck was defueling under hard pulls or launches, good thing it is a GM. All mobil 1 here in my trucks.

I may switch back also...I used a Mobil 1 filter at the last oil change and it started to seep around the gasket. Filter is tight. I went to 4 different part stores for this filter thinking it was better for the extra 2 dollars over the AC Delco, but at this point, I'm not convinced.

As for maintenance, I used to let the dealer do a LOF for 30.00 but got sick of waiting 2 hours while they were doing it. Plus the fact that they wanted 99.00 for the diesel. I'm back to doing it myself, and realize how much I like it again.

Only wrench under hood of mine is mine, besides I know more about the ole 6.5 than vast majority of so called GM Diesel techs out there, and once the get a look of mods I've done they will be wholly lost. I do fluid changes when a sample says it is needed, I do fuel filter changes when I get a high DP light from the vac switches I installed, far more economical to change filts when you need to vs when you think you need to change em.
