Dead Injection Pump on '96 GMC K2500?

the fuse for the GP controller is under the hood, at least mine is. it's labeled something like "ECM-B" iirc. and Ak is right. you may have gotten the IP close enough for it to run, but once the ecm looks at the current timing which is usually every 50 key cycles or so, it might leave you scratching your head as to why all of a sudden it runs out of whack!
 
Running out of time doesn’t just mean loss of a little power and a little mpg. If slightly advanced it will eat up glow plugs and increase piston slap, maybe smacking the piston skirt against the cylinder wall more frequently. This is more pronounced on our idi than modern pistons that have the injectors centered ontop of the piston.

please add truck details into signature for the future. Following Long threads like this and needing to scroll up each time there’s a new post the next day makes it hard to follow what you have.
