Obtained db2 4911 "rebuilt", from Pensacola. Installed, truck ran beautiful, with one exception.......no hot start. About a pint of cold water over the IP would get it fired up again. They were very good about getting another pump to me right away. Installed, truck barely idles. Stumbles badly, and stalls after some light throttle is applied and removed. Everything else is the same as the first pump. Tried advancing and retarding timing a bit, no change.

Is this indicative of a bad advance within the pump itself? The guy at Pensacola says it's a rotary pump so a miss on one cylinder isn't possible. So what is possible? What might I have done wrong in the second install that wasn't done wrong in the first?

Looking for possibilities and probabilities to get to a fair outcome for all parties. Sounds like Pensacola don't want to warranty a second pump.

It would be kinda difficult to install the lines in the wrong order, with the way they are bent. Nonetheless, I am very conscious of what I'm doing when I transfer them one set of two at a time from one pump to the other. Pretty certain that isn't the problem. I thought that perhaps I had installed the drive gear 180* out, so I pulled the water pump and tried that. Engine wont even fire with it 180 out, so I had it right the first time. Put it back, and the problem still persists.

I moved my gauges to a pillar pod, and I haven't gotten them wired back up yet, but with the current setup on the first pump my dual lift rig was sending 6lbs at idle with the FRB 5 (from Leroy :)) and 7 with both running. Nothing else has changed. I will start cracking one line at a time open today to see if I can isolate a bad cylinder. On a casual inspection I didn't see any line leaking anywhere, but will look more closely at the lines at the rear of the pump. The valley was dry and clean when I installed the pump so any moisture down there would be a problem.

I still have both pumps they've sent me so far. I just got a bad feeling when speaking to them yesterday they think the problem is on my end. Not saying it isn't, trying to figure out what is happening. I cant afford to just eat $1200.00 and go buy another pump elsewhere.

PENSACOLA likes to blame the end user, not there product. I hate to say it, but you are one of many with problems like this from PENSACOLA. That Ebay store of theres sure keeps em in business, to bad the quality has gone down. I REFUSE to install there parts, even if they are half the price. I'm betting you got a bad pump.

Bad head and rotor - plain and simple.

Oh Bullshit! A bad pump can "break up" the sound of the engine with missing. Esp if the timing isn't right and you rev it up. Even at idle you can move the timing retard lever on the pass side of the pump manually and nearly stall the engine. Thus timing jumping or a bad lobe on the pump cam ring can cause a engine miss. Ever have a camshaft get a flat lobe? Yeah, it's possible.

How did you pay for the pump? Credit card company can help get you a refund... Because you need to send both back as defective and tell them be glad they are not getting a bill for your labor to F'K around with their junk.

Of course you can check for air free fuel at the proper pressure just to describe how feeding it out of a 5 gal test pail has the same issues.

Well, I get to pay the freight, and a 10% "restocking" fee for junk. Aint I just thrilled with their "service".......

Now, the obvious question. What vendor do I deal with to greatly curtail any chance of a repeat performance?

Who builds a good pump these days, or is direct from Stanadyne the way to go?

Conestoga builds good pumps for a decent price.

Thank You. I just spoke with Mel at Conestoga. Very impressed with him, and the reviews from around the web. As soon as I get the other pumps back to Pensacola, I'll have a "junior Moose" pump on it's way.

Good to hear! I bet that truck runs better than new after that.
