I have a 93 c1500 5.7 tbi with a driver side cs130 alternator and i’m looking to upgrade to the cs144. Can’t find any information on this upgrade anywhere. Looking for help as to, does it mount directly in and if not do i need a bracket and if so what kind.

It does not fit. Upper and lower brackets need altering. I used to recommend making the change but with improvements to alternators of last 15 years- I don’t.
Unless you are getting a super high amp cs144 and have major electrical draw and at least one extra battery- you are better off getting a high dollar, higher amp 130 imo.

I dont think there is factory brackets to hold the cs144 on the 5.7. You would have to modify…

Are there brackets out there designed for this or would i have to modify the stock bracket i have

I don’t know of any. I can’t remember seeing a cs144 on a 5.7. They were on 6.0 engines in certain applications, not all. How many of the brackets need to be changed for it all to work would be the next question.

They are used on the diesels but bracket definitely do not cross over.
Nor from the 6.0 h2 as those were specific brackets.

I would seriously look into aftermarket 130 alternators if you don’t know how to fabricate steel.

Welcome @MrLucky

on the conversion, I was able to fit an AD244 alternator on my 95 6.5 diesel without too much trouble. mine called for a CS130, the AD244 is a larger body but does not have the provisions on it for the rear support bracket. I improvised a flat plate with two holes onto the top mounting ear over to the engine lifting eye for a little more rigidity. The AD244 is a 185 amp alternator that is factory for the GMT800 series rigs that required the higher output.. being yours is a 5.7 gas engine, mounting will be different. what I did was scavenge out in the pick a part junk yard looking at different vehicles I knew used higher output alternators, looking at their mounting and seeing what might work. snagged one I thought would work and brought it home.

I figured if I could make it fit I would just get a new one. 9 times out of 10 alternators in the junkyard are still perfectly fine unless they caught fire or are really packed full of crap. the one I pulled still had it's stickers on it from an auto parts store and looked fairly new. Only costed me $40.

if you have a local junk yard where you can pull your own parts, get a good mental picture of how yours is setup, take photos on your phone and set out into that yard looking around. also do your research on what vehicles used high output alternators.

take tools to remove, heck even find a rig like yours out there to do the test fitting while you out there. don't forget to get the connectors for it too so you can hook it all up. I used a soldering iron on the wire ends of the connector I got making pins that would fit nicely into the factory connector of my truck. this way I was not cutting and splicing into my harness and can put the factory one back in at any time.

Here is a photo of a CS130 and the AD244 side by side. there are lots of sites online about this conversion. just keep in mind, there is two different types of the AD244. if you go too new of a year model, the vehicles used canbus with the ECM controlling the alternator. these will not work. the older ones (can't recall the years) will work. I wanna say I got mine from a 2004 suburban iirc anything newer than 2006 used the ECM to control the alternator. connectors look the same for the side plug, but internally the voltage regulator is different.
