CNY Southern Onondaga County 2012-2013 Plowing Season

Had some time to try and figure out my plow lights. The marker lights worked but the high and low beams didnt. Ended up running a ground, which the plow needed. The lights still didn't work. Checked the relays behind the drivers parking light and they were corroded badly. Luckily last time i went to the junkyard i grabbed 2 relays from a Dodge van. They happen to be the exact number and everything! Swapped one in and the low beams worked. Swapped the other and now the high beams work. So i have working plow lights again, but the headlight on the drivers side is very dim, i am thinking it needs to be replaced. I am also soaking the studs in penetrant so i can carefully loosen them without ruining the housing so i can re point the beams.

Also included a picture of my shot rotor, had metal on metal the other day.

Is plowing that ruff on a vehicle?

Plowing is down right abusive on a truck. My truck is definitely a rare find. It had a plow installed before it left the dealer lot brand new in '94. My fisher Minute Mount plow is actually a '94 model year manufacture. Currently the truck has 245K on the odometer, it is very rare to find a lifer plow truck still plowing this far down the road. Usually the truck will rot right out, or something very costly will break, where it would just be smarter to buy something else. Trucks that belong to companies get it the worst because they have so many different drivers who dont care about the truck because its not theirs. My truck was bought by a well drilling company and owned until i bought it in a field at 172K.

A plow puts so many stresses on the front of the truck, weight wise, pushing wet heavy snow, blade angles and stacking snow.

A lot of people will down right not buy a truck if they know its been plowed with. Most would rather buy a virgin truck and install their own plow.

Two pictures i took about 10 minutes ago. Hopefully promising.. I was diagnosed with the flu yesterday and am on hardcore medication. Feeling better today, had a fever of 101.8 yesterday. Fingers crossed!

Your pictures remind me of how much I hate snow. You must be up in the hills. There is no snow on the ground or in the air here in East Syracuse right now.

Here are all the pictures from the storm last weekend. Total got about 1 foot plus blowing snow.

A few more pictures while in travel on Saturday. The first highway picture is on Route 481 south by Jamesville NY. The second is on Route 81 south heading to the LaFayette exit. Also another shot of Route 20 in LaFayette.

Some are of a local customers house.

A few road shots. Then the end of a dirt road i have to plow.

The ones with the red wrangler are my dads house.

Nice pics Mike. Keep yer snow over there though :D

Thanks! Definitely made some money this weekend, but i have a feeling im going to be spending it quick.

Over the weekend i seemed to pickup a rotational grind while taking off/driving. It feels like its passenger front, and like a wheel bearing going bad. Which i replaced that one less than 2 years ago. Trying to get funds together for a fast front end rebuild. Two new bearings, rotors and pads.

Hopefully i can limp it around for now.

Dusted off all the company cars/truck. Moved them out into the lot and went to work with the blower.

I figured it out, the lower caliper bolt un-threaded on the passenger side front. I tightened it back up with a pair of pliers, my large hex drives are at home, will suffice for now. I guess the never-seize worked, im pretty sure i cranked them all down last week.

Could you send us just alittle snow for Christmas day! then you can have it back.:snow3

We got hit with another ~2-3 inches Christmas Eve, but i didnt go out an plow Christmas day, just not quite enough for an event. We are gearing down hard today. Tonight into tomorrow we will get ~8 inches to a possible foot. I had issues with my new alternator not having enough power to run all my equipment at idle. Today im going to call around on getting a cs130 high amp (140A). Kind disappointing with the warranties on these units only consisting of 2 years, especially due to the cost. Contemplating on a Power Master from Advance, or a non-identified named unit from Napa.

Had to go into work early this am to dust off the cars and clean the sidewalks. Open and ready for business.

I've had good luck with advance recently. My 2 duralast gold tops went bad and they said they have full replacement warranty until 2018!

Well, no one could get the monster alternator for me today. I couldn't for the life of me find my receipt for this stupid alternator i bought in late September of this year. Called all the advance auto's in my vicinity and no one showed an alternator purchase in my name this year. I think i screwed my self. Ended up getting a new alternator from NAPA today, but its the 105A unit. Has a 3 year warranty and i put the receipt in my binder already. My local Advance wanted to help me, but couldn't without the receipt, or me showing up in their system. Must be when i bought it the guy didn't take my number down for the warranty information. Grr..

He (NAPA guy) tested my old one (which has seemed to pick up a bearing squeal) and it maxed out at 14.6v loaded, he said it should hit 15v on the tester. So he showed me with the new Delco Remy reman, and it hit 15.2v loaded. So i slapped it in on lunch today.

Picked up a set of Bosch Evolution 19'' wiper blades for $15.44 each. Also grabbed a quart of 15w-40 Diesel oil and bottle of power steering fluid for a total spent of 122 bucks. Not too bad, the Triple A discount comes in handy.

Here are the pictures i took of this mornings snow event. Was the picture perfect storm. Started about 6 pm last night, snowed hard till about 7 am, and is slowing. I got up at 2 am and headed out, did my dads drive first followed by the normal route. Got everyone done and was at work by 5:45 am where i continued snow removal with the blower.

Pictures an in a little mixed order, for some reason my camera doesn't upload them onto the computer as numerically as they were taken, will have to get better with that.
