Can i put a standard transmission from a 5.7 chevy in a 6.5

Can i exchange a 5speed trans.crom a 95 chevy :gas engine into a diesel pickup wit 6.5 engine

what? it will fit, in the bed. gearing is different. what year did it come from and year going into?
need more information.
 
I voted yes because it can be put in. But the real question should have been should you? Need to know which trans to answer that question. A half ton 5.7l with a 5 speed will be a nv3500. Yes it can bolt up behind a 6.5l, but it SHOULDN'T be put behind one imo if you plan on actually using it for work. The nv3500 is not a heavy duty trans by any means, and is on no way up to thechallenge of the torque that a 6.5l can put through one under load. Now if it came from a 2500 it could be a nv3500 or nv4500, or a 3500 would most likely be a nv4500. The nv4500 on the other hand is up to the task, and the same nv4500 could have also came factory behind a 6.5l.
 
if the gas donor is a 8 lug 3/4 ton or 1 ton, it will likely have the NV4500, and that would be the best, as that is the same transmission as what the 6.5L would have had.

if a half ton, it would have the NV3500, which would be OK if you babied it and never pulled, but would not be a great idea.


Back to the NV4500.
If comparing same year gas and diesel, there are no changes. the changes are based on year, not on fuel type. if you sell the truck, it would do the next owner good if you could keep the swap limited to the correct year ranges, 96 and up had the internal slave bellhousing, and the 95 and older has the external slave. 92-95 only fit the external slave bellhousing, and 96+ only fit the internal slave bellhousing, so pick your transmission wisely.

mid 94+ has the better top cover with the 4 bolt removeable stub, which is a far superior top cover.

Just to muddy it up some, don't confuse anything you read about the DODGE version with the GM version. They're both called NV4500's, but thats about where the similarities end. DODGE jad 2 different versions as well, the light duty version they put behind the 5.9l gas engine(very similiar to the GM as GM only offerred the light duty version), and the HD version they put behind the CUMMINS and V-10.
