I'll be leaving Oklahoma Friday travelling through Cheyenne and Boise on the way to Seattle. I'll turn it around in four days and come home. For the last 10 years, my '94 has remained in OK. I've gone through the fluids/filters, cleaned the battery terminals, and checked the tires. I'm taking enough fuel additive blend for the entire trip. I've put it on a lift just looking for anything odd but haven't found anything.

If anyone has any big trip road prep they'd like to offer, I'd appreciate it.

Even though I have a Heath I still carry a spare FSD, also spare fuel filt on hand as fewer parts stores carry them as time marches on for these old dinosaurs we choose to keep alive, how does the heater supply QD fitting look, if anything can go bump in the night and leave you stranded, it will

Check your idler pulley bearing, I put a new bearing in my old pulley and carry it as a spare, I also carry extra oils and anti-freeze mix. Don't forget every tool you think you'll need, then throw in a few more.:smile5:

Water! I had a truck spring a leak, I had to walk over 5 miles round trip for water. That was a bad day!

I am sure you already have one but, small tool kit!

I,ll bet since dan is from Ok,he already has baling wire....t

Yes, I do...and my father-in-law works in duct tape like a master painter would in oils. I'm convinced he can built in duct tape anything originally built out of 6061 or less.

You,ve probably already done it ,but I would have a close look at oil cooler lines & fittings (clips Etc).

Seriously, AMA card and cell phone.

In jest, carry Duct Tape and WD-40. They're all the tools you'll need.

If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.
If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.

Have a nice trip, Dan!!

Acutally the Duct tape suggestion was as much in earnest as in jest, especially if you are camping.
A Gps is a fun & possible usefull thing to have.

More after thoughts

Nice to have things : Lap top to maintain contact with 6.5 family , Dvd player & movies for passengers.

Log book & some way to remember to use it.

I will soon embark on an at least 10k mile roadtrip myself and my list of current equipment is as follows :

in the glovebox

in a DeWalt toolbag in the back
  • assortment of screwdrivers
  • 8-16mm ratcheting wrenches
  • 2 DeWalt cordless DC528 shoplights with charger
  • spare Baldwin Oil Filter
  • assortment of zip ties
  • duct tape
  • electrical tape
  • old cotton towels
  • travel size bottle of GoJo
  • assortment of pliers
  • utility knife
  • Crescent wrench
  • Powertank tire pressure gauge
  • box of assorted nuts and bolts of things i recently changed and were left over / spare (i.e. GM8 turbomaster)

on me I carry a thinkpad X200, since it is small and light enough to carry anywhere and with the 9cell battery can do 10 hours on that battery easily and YES because you have to be able to at least check in on DTR just in case. There are coffee shops everywhere and even if not there are still TONS of people that have never heard of WPA or WEP encryption - and even then there are ways ;-)
I will update accordingly, so far I could have even changed the lift pump with what I have.....

I like to take enough tools to do anything short of an engine swap (only because the hoist takes up too much room).:smile5:

tire repair plugs--ever ran over where roofing nails spilled????

but then you also need something like this :
