Can the heads still be removed without pulling the engine with studs, or does that go away once studs are used?

Yes they can, but you have to remove the studs. The ARP studs have an small female Allen head on the end of them for removal, but if you were to use red locktite, you would end up rounding the allen head out before they would come out.

Safe to say I wouldn't use Red Loctite.
Living in Ohio most of our Loctite comes from road spray in the winter.
