Baby needs new sneakers.

So my 1996 K2500 SRW 5spd needs new tires. I see some post's on what I'm looking for but not exactly or they just haven't answered all of my questions. I have the stock 245/75r16's on there now and I want to go bigger, mostly because I have 4:10 gears and at 70mph I'm at 2500 rpm. I don't do alot of towing but I am on the highway most of the time with it. I plan on keeping the stock steel wheels which I believe are 7" width, I'm not real sure about anything else on the rims.

I'm looking at either 285/75R16 or 255/85R16 for sizes. I haven't ruled out the 265/75R16 yet but I think I would like one of the others better. My main question is fittment issues. I see some post's for youo guys with burbs and DRW trucks but mine is just an extended cab long box. I'm pretty sure the 285's will fit on my stock rims although they are an inch thinner than what is called for and I might have some rubbing issues but they seem easier to get than the 255's.

Any help, thoughts and insight is greatly appreciated......

P.S. I would of posted this in the wheels, tires and suspension thread but I asked a question there a week or so ago and still haven't gotten a response yet, I ended up finding the answer over here.

4.10's here too. 285-75-16's also. When I bought my '93 this is what it already had. The torsions were also cranked shitless too, causing all kinds of bad things in the front end. Front bumper is trimmed. My truck called for 265-75-16 in stock trim.

I did give the 255-85's a look. Pretty much in the same boat as you on tires right now.

I have the 'D-max' wheel and they are only 6 1/2...

Check out Goodrich Commercial T/A tires upon recommendation from Bill Heath I went to 235-85-16s for mine for better mpg less rolling resistance, has been awesome hiway mpg tire, not so great offroad but for highway mileage & wear I'm very satisfied with them, I drive by GPS speed speedo has always been off even with the factory 265-75-16s it came with. Not sure where rolling resistance vs rpm trade is more better, possibly Bill has a good suggestion for a 4:10 truck, it's a toll free call you mite wanna give him a call.

Wheels was rite place to ask 1st but if you didn't get answer you were looking for and you are in a 6.5 truck looking for a good fit for the 6.5; we will carry on the discussion here for a few days get input them move to wheels & tires after question has run it's course here.

IIRC your stock wheel is a 6.5"

I would not get 285, worse in snow, more rolling resistance, makes turning harder, possible rubbing. 235/85/16 is good, but only about 1" taller than what you have, so to lower RPMs I would get the 255/85/16 if you can, which are 2.5" taller. That or get some taller wheels so the rubber doesnt have to have as tall or walls.

Hey, thanks all for the quick reply's. Yes It is a 6.5 and I seem to find all the answers that I need in this forum even though some aren't related to a 6.5. I have BFG A/T's on there now and I can't stand them, well let me put it this way, I like them for the highway but in the snow they are terrible for me and as far as for off-road which I do very little of, I got stuck in my buddies front yard because they loaded up so bad. I do most of my driving in the winter months with this truck as I try to take my car off the road. Now that I know that the rims are 6.5 I don't think the 285's will fit the rims.
