My 92 C3500 has been a very reliable daily driver for some time now, and I have definently gotten my money back out of it. Due to the crazy price of diesel, im buying a car to drive everyday. Im thinking about seeing how far I can push the envelope performance wise. Im not trying to blow the pistons through the block, just make some good reliable power and show the guys at the strip that the 6.5 can put down some decent numbers. I have taken it to the drag strip before I turned it up and it ran a 18.68 @ 72mph. 60' time was about 2.35 seconds. Not too bad for a basically stock 6.5 IMO.
So far, the mods in my signature are current. Any advise on any others? I was thinking water\meth injection to keep the EGTs down for 1\4 mile bursts. Ive been working on a home made waste gate so I can adjust boost levels. Also Im wondering if anyone has seen any improvements over a 3in down pipe and new crossover pipe? Thanks in advance

if it really going to be a racer I'd do a hood scoop for a true cold air intake. Is your IP a 4911? Marine inj maybe

Ive thought about re locating the passenger side battery and running the filter out where the head light would go. Mechanical IP, not sure if thats the number or not though

the4911 IP came on the pre electronic turbo 6.5s. It has bigger plungers than most other db2s. Yours should have it but maybe the previouse owner swapped it. be worth a look

Im pretty sure its the stock one that came on it, the truck has never had any major work done and has pretty low miles for its age. Where can I find the number on it?

check on the drivers side of the pump... there is a tag with all the vital info.... also IMO it will be good to swap out your head gaskets before you start hotrodding your ride... get a set of MLS cometic gaskets at .070 over thickness... this will drop your compression down to around 18:5:1 and lock it all down with a set of ARP headstuds... then start boosting... oh yeah, lose the gm-x turbo as it is a performance bottle-neck, try a holset or a ATT..... the ATT is your best bang for your buck as it is a bolt on kit with all you need to do the job. we run 351 vgt turbos but it is not really a bolt on conversion but it is an awsome turbo for the 6.5l...

Put a bigger lift pump on it so you can provide about 12psi to the IP and you should get some more performance out of it, as well as maybe a bit of advance. Marine injectors will put a bit more fuel out, but I would only go with genuine German Bosch nozzles, and not the cheap knockoffs most places probably use. If its just for drag racing or running around occasionally then I would just cut the exhaust pipe off after the downpipe, or put a tip that points down on it there. There are muffler tips you can buy, I have one if you wanted to buy it, that you can install after the stip, they cut down the noise quite a bit but sound a little silly.

The FP953 is fair priced brand new and is the Cummins replacement pump by delphi to be more reliable. And it looks like our OEM one but larger and have to adapt some fittings.

Yeah not sure on the part number. Anywho cummins guys hate them, say they are junk. I bought 2 used ones so i have a spare. Just get one off a 24v cummins 98.5 and newer..

The Cummins lift pumps are junk call any IP shop & you'll get same story, and why can be found a discount pricing on the bay, the original pumps are the ones that can stop in a manner that stops all flow, so it can be non flow thru on fail which wreaks havoc on the down stream components expecting proper lubrication & flow the fuel is supposed to provide, ergo my hesitation to go Raptor only as I've not a fuzzy feel yet for it's ability to flow on fail.

From all accounts Raptor is a monster of a pump pricey, maybe someday I'll have one but it's not at top of my priority right now as I have more than adequate fuel for my needs with my parallel pump setup.

I assume you are looking to the Cummins lift as being better than the GM, & a pump less $$$ than the Raptor, same situation I was in so I added a used but good Walbro FRB5 I got for $30 put it in parallel with my Heath h/o one, which BTW will serve 90 +% of the 6.5 crowd well in solo use.

It's the heavy haulers/go fast guys that need a little more oomph from lift pumps, Matt Bachand IIRC is running (2) OEM lifts or (2) Walbros I can't zactly remember in series he's happy with that setup as well.

I also have a fuel pressure gauge in my truck, so when the pump quits or starts loosing pressure i know. Highly reccommended with your gauge setups..

I would also say that the new replacement pumps may not be the junk that the old ones are percieved as. I think the Delphi FP953 was the answer to the criticism.

And if the engines they are on supply an IP that constantly has to provide 18k psi common rail it may be more stress than a 6.5 that the IP only needs push 2100-10,000psi depending on RPM and load, and most 6.5 users aren't using more than 80mm3 of fuel per injection, so demand would be less.
