I'm experienced with diesels,Not on the 7.3 power strokes though.A fella dropped me off a 97 ford with the 7.3 engine to look at.The valley is full of diesel, the LP looks the membrane type.Filter area looks dry. Starts and runs well.I Dont know the history.
??
1) Are these LP's known to leak?
2) What is the procedure if replacement is needed, does the turbo has to come off in order to get the return line connection off ?
3) whats the best way to test the GP's,Ohms or test light?
How many OHM's ?

Thanks

1) Are these LP's known to leak? I haven't ever heard of many problems with em as that one should be the mechanical style mounted in the valley.
2) What is the procedure if replacement is needed, does the turbo has to come off in order to get the return line connection off ? I don't think so, but I've never changed one out before

How many OHM's ? They should ohm out very simliar to the 6.5 glows so 1 ohm would be a good starting point. Bad news is you have to remove the valve covers to check em on that one I believe. The glow plug relay is VERY failure prone though on em.

Thanks

In red. I don't do alot on em though, so I'm sure others can help you more than I.

I know 3 people with 1996 powerstrokes and all 3 of them had to replace the lift pump right around 150K miles. I think my buddy said he did his without removing the turbo. When I did my Dads glow plugs at 130K miles he only had 1 that was bad, but he wanted all of them changed because he travels a lot now and didn't want any problems. His glow plug relay was melted though. One of the main big terminals was melted right out of the relay. Another thing to check s the wire harness at the valve covers. I have seen a few of those melt connectors and cause glow plug codes.

The guy that worked on my truck said there were 5 "0" rings on the top of the 7.3. he there was no charge if it was the same "0" ring, the second time he said it was a differant one......
