As I was driving back home this morning a 2002 Dodge ex-cab 4x4 with a Cummins and bull hauler stacks decided to pass me. Decided and tried and failed. This guy lives farther up the road from me and drives very fast all the time. About 7 miles from where I live is a flat 2 mile straight stretch and then a very straight and steep .8 mile hill, all of this and no side roads, no place to pull off, and no traffic. Wonderful!! Steep hill, very, going down the hill, with the speed limit being 45, a vehicle will hit 60 very easily so it is steep. I had heard this guy talk about his Cummins at the little story near here. His Cummins, his big air intake, big free breathing bull hauler stacks, and his computer work and had wondered if my new engine would keep up with his big Cummins with all his additions. As things progressed, down the straight stretch, with the white Dodge and bull hauler stacks heading at my tailgate at a high rate of speed I decided to put my foot into my loud pedal and see what would happed. As he was passing me and got to my door I was then at his speed and I looked at him and he was looking down at what I believe was his speedometer and is probably now wondering what is wrong with his engine. He backed off and got back in behind me and I slowed down to 45 again. Now I am at the base of the steep hill and he decided he would try to pass me again and I saw 2 black clouds of smoke from his stacks. Going uphill with this guy now charging around me I hit the loud pedal again and took off in the uphill direction. I caught up with the Dodge when my front tires were at his back tires and pulled right up to him looked over at him as I went past and kept on going. He got back in behind me and I slowed down to 45 again. He followed me at about 10 feet until I got to the little store near where I live. I slowed way down and motioned to him to turn in with me. He did and asked me what engine I had in my pickup, 'a big block'? I told him just a 6.2, of course he didn't believe me and had to lift the hood to show it to him. He said he never heard of a 6.2 having that much power and I had to say that I was expecting more from his Cummins. I then mentioned that it was probably the first time he had driven 45 in the 45 zone around here. He got in his Dodge and drove off with out even saying 'good-bye'! I drove home with a smile like the Cheshire Cat! Life is Good! Now if this engine would just get broke in so it would perform better!

Sorry but something is missing from this story. I own an '02 Cummins and it would blow the doors off my stock 6.5TD. My Tahoe is a little faster but it's fully modded. Either he is a real lousy driver or something was wrong with his truck(tranny probably wouldn't shift). I have also owned many 6.2s and although reliable good engines, they are complete dogs. That said I once beat a Peterbilt with a 425 cat with my little old one stack Mack 300 6sp lo hole cause I knew how to use the weight of the truck.

We'll I know 635 via phone, & have spent some quality time getting to know him; if he done it, I'd say it's not just a "one eyed fat man's bold talk" to coin a phrase from Robert Duvall to the Duke in True Grit.

His 6.5 ain't berzactly a stock 6.5, & fixin to have some more bells and whisltes on it.

Whats a 635?
IIRC his is a 6.2 bottom end, punched out some with 6.5 upper parts, ported & polished (Extrude Hone) "some things" and a lot of Heath goodies as well. Not my place to let the cat out the bag, but this members project will be one to watch as it progresses, some of the things he has already on his rig are things I prolly mite have done on my project engine had we known each other at the time to compare notes, stuff on his rig now comparable to stuff I currently have on my K1500 below.

OK, well he has no sig and it read to me like a stock 6.2 which having owned 3 of them I know is BS. If it's a 6.2/6.5 with mods that's different. I have said it myself in previuos posts that my Tahoe will beat my 02 Cummins.

Hey guys, how and where is the fill out the signature part! So something like this may not happen again. Ted

Yeah Kenny we gotta watch ourselves raising the BS alert, I've done it myself in past calling foul ball right off the bat without knowing the situation. Of course some "individuals" come to mind even after posting what they have are worthy of the BS flag, most of those kind of guys are at Place nowadays having been shown the door here for not playing nice with others :D

I'll say this - that is one impressive 6.5 (or 6.2)!
I rode in my first cummins, bone stock except for exhaust, its an 06 model 3500 and that thing is scary fast compared to any 6.5 I've seen.

635, get some pix up of yer ride....we need some new stuff to drool all over :D

I gotcha tim but you gotta admit that post read like some BS'in. I realize now that's not the case but nowhere in there did it say mods etc. Just said 6.2 and my BS detector went nuts. My Tahoe is only mildly modded and It would beat my Cummins in it's stock form so yes now I believe it. Chrisk Posted a very similar but even those who don't know Chris can look at his sig. Not looking by anymeans to degrade 635 but it loooked like BS initially. Keep up the good work and let us see more.

635 was taken from the engine being called a 6.2 and 1/2 from MaxxTorque Fall 2008. Lots of money spent on that rebuild and had things done that were not done before to a 6.2. Post a picture? I can't even figure out if I did the signature thing right! So if my signature doesn't work, here is what it is. The pickup is a 98 ex-cab 4x4 dually with 4"10's. All LED lights except the headlight and dash lights. It has Heath's new larger crossover and it is ceramic coated. The 3" downpipe is ceramic coated. 4" muffler to a Y pipe and 4" duals. 19.5 APP wheels and 265 tires that are 33.5 tall with a matching wheel and tire mounted to the fender just in front of the right dually fender. Heath bigger computer hp upgrade, Heath bigger injectors, Balance Flow, D-Max fan, Turbo Master, Lubrication Specialist Oil cooler. K&N filter. Vented hood and vented fender at air intake. New injection pump installed at Heath Diesel at the same time Todd installed the new injectors and fuel lines. Heath remote mount PMD. Heath lift pump. Timing set by Bill himself. Transmission rebuit by Pac-Trans of Yakima, Wa. Mag-Hytec transmission and rear differential cover. Have to change the boost gauge, only goes to 15. The engine has a little over 3,500 miles on it now and it should get better as it gets a little more broke in. Isspro engine oil temp, transmission oil temp, boost and pyro gauges. Along with a BD exhaust brake gauge that had the brake removed when I added the 4" exhaust. At the time I did the exhaust I didn't want to wait for the 4" to show up but it will have a 4" exhaust brake in the future. I'm east of Everett, Washington in a little area called Robe Valley, east of Granite Falls. I have a 41 foot Teton fifth wheel that I pull and the total weight of pickup and trailer is just under 24,000. I'm a 60 year old retired log truck, heavy haul, long haul, and dump truck driver with over 4 million miles behind me. More mods to come next month. There you go!

I'll have to try to figure that out! I was just lucky to figure out the signature part!

Gunner, where did you get the HID Headlights?

well, That is impressive. Now I believe it and then some. Like I said sorry about the BS thing but at first glance looked like a 20 yr old saying my d*cks bigger than yours sort a thing. Very nice. Course if his Dodge runs like mine you could have beaten him with a Chevette....

A few days back I posted about a late model P/S Ford 3/4 ton ex-cab 4x4 that I went up against while rolling towards a red light at 10mph while waiting for a light to change. He had been gasing his loud pedal beside me trying to get me going. The light changed and we both nailed it and I drove away from him, but it was in a 40 zone and I didn't go over the speed limit. He got next to me and asked me if I had a big block in it. I told him it was just a 6.2. He told me to show him so I pulled over by a used car lot and popped the hood and then I showed him the MaxxTorque article with it being a 6.2, yes I do carry an issue with me. He didn't read the article just looked at the picture of the engine that matched the engine under the hood. He didn't want his friends to know he got his doors blown off by a 6.2 and I told him I wouldn't tell if he didn't. When I wrote that little tid bit no one said anything about it but I think I mentioned the engine in the magazine also. And with my last write up I didn't mention it. So I can see where you would think BS for the story. Ted

what's it got for a turbo?

Does this mean there's hope for my truck yet? There's a couple of Dodges and Fords around with kids running gigantic stacks and probably a tuner that I think need to be punished by a real truck. When I get the GL-4 I'm going to get myself in trouble.
