5.7 diesel up and running

I have always wondered about the purpose of a coolant filter other than on some of the big rigs where the filter has DCA additive that slowly goes into the system. all the time I have wrenched on trucks at work I have never seen one get dirty or clog up.

on your LP. if the IP can't handle more than 6-7 psi and the pump is rated for 12, I would add a regulator in line or a tee with a smaller line looping back to the tank just to make sure it never goes over what the pump can handle. those pumps are pulse driven not a gear driven pump so your gauge needle will bounce. my test gauge needle bounces so much that I can't get an accurate reading at idle without a snubber on it.

Thanks for the reply.I appreciate it.I’m hoping sometime today to get the new lift pump on.The current pump functions okay but it’s been on the truck about 15-20yrs I would estimate at this point.3 psi entering the injection pump currently does sound low to me.

This Delphi is rated for 12psi when I checked the specification online on rockauto and I think by the time fuel has to pass through two filters it’ll be reduced to 7-8 psi while it’s running.I’ll use a regulator though if it remains high.👍

I have a diesel RX regulator on my 96 gmc with the 6.2/DS4.I used a 7.3 powerstroke Sparta brand lift pump that puts out 43psi and I dialed it back to 14psi before it reached the injection pump.I used a snubber as well with a digital fuel pressure gauge inside the truck on the A pillar. The factory 6.5 lift pump was garbage.Thats why I used the Sparta.I’m pretty sure the DB2 can only handle 9-10psi before the seals begin to leak.

I like the idea of a coolant filter though.I see some guys on Facebook have done it on some 6.2 diesel trucks. It’ll probably be a couple weeks before I get to do that but I’ll post pictures when it has been installed.
