4L60E reverse going bad, need info on exact model to look for. I got an odd duck, It's a 95 GMC 6.5L Nat Asp with a 4l60e tranny. It was a custom order for Va DOT fleet. just a quick look on the innernets shows me that not all 4l60e 's are the same. Is there a data plate somewhere under the muck that will let me know exactly what I need?

Double check as GM supposedly never put a 4l60e behind ANY 6.5L(even n/a). So be absolutely certain what trans you have 1st as it should be a 4l80e.

If it is in fact a 4l60e, 95 is a 1 year only. For a 4l80e, 95 and 96 directly interchange, but 97+ can also be used by modifying the trans cooler lines.

the Tranny shop owner was shocked when he saw the 4l60 in it, is there a difference between a GMC 4l60 and a Chevy 4l60? I remember the only dif for the old 350s and 400 trannys was the shape of the bell housing.

No difference, just has to be a 95. I would double check yourself as the torque output for even a 6.5l n/a was supposed to be more than a 4l60e was rated at.

I've seen several of these VaDOT trucks with the trannys sitting in the bed

Look at the pan. All square is 60. Two corners cut off is 80.
Search pan gaskets and youll se what im saying.

Btw pan is quickest way to see difference in th350 VS h400 also. Pan is how I id any gm trans.
