1994 c3500 6.5 liter diesel

on the relay mod I linked above, to allow it to prime with the WTS, simply add a wire to the relay terminal 87a (center pin) and run it to the GP stud that feeds out to the glow plugs. when you turn on the key the LP will run priming the system until the glow plugs have heated up.

And a switch can be added in to prime the system without having to turn on the ignition switch.
I got the relay harness from Leroy Diesel that has that little push button switch included.
I pulled the switch from that harness and installed it into the airdog harness.

if you install a switch to prime or run the LP manually, you will need to add a one way diode at the end of the wire going to the GP controller so your not powering your GP's when you use the switch.

that switch is very handy for things like replacing the fuel filter and you need to get the air out!

The harness that Leroy sells that MrMarty is talking about is a plug n play unit. a very nice setup. I built my own before I knew it was a thing.

the lift pump is powered through the ops (oil pressure sensor) a common failure point and why so many of us have done the relay mod. some folks also add a signal wire from the GP (glow plug) controller to energize the added relay so the system will prime while the WTS (wait to start) light is on prior to cranking.
Thanks I will have to study up on that as I have retired this project till next weekend. There's alot to this it seems hopefully you are OK hitting you up for more knowledge next week

any time! were all here to help one another. I'm sure others will chime in soon once they see the thread. Ive only been wrenching on these 6.5's for about 5 years now or something like that. I myself have learned loads from the guys here. feel free to poke around here in the forums and soak up as much as you can.

these rigs aren't power houses and are seemingly a dying breed, but there is something about these old IDI diesels that keep us attached to them!

oh and feel free to join in on some of the other random threads, we talk about everything under the sun here too LOL

single thermostat or the dual? are there any local pick-a-part salvage yards in your area? you might be able to find one out there. I have part of one for the dual stats. and one single stat crossover that's on an engine I have, haven't decided if I will be doing anything with the engine or scrapping it due to cracked web mains, but the crossover has been broken like yours and welded back together.

that is another option if you have a local radiator shop nearby where they will weld aluminum. take it and the broken piece to them and see if they can weld it up for you.

put out the search for one here in the forums. most of us stash a small hoard of parts. one of the guys here might have one in good shape! If I do end up scrapping this engine, your welcome to the crossover, but again it's not in the greatest conditions but works.
