My son's 68 chevy doesn't have power steering and he really want it installed. I have done a conversion on an old 67 before simply by installing a box pump and brackets from a 70 model which all was a direct bolt up mod. his truck has an aftermarket AC installed which kinda hinders this. I thought I would make a thread to get some ideas and imput from yall about how to get a pump mounted on the 250 engine.

Here is a random photo of a 250 that has the alt and pump mounted. in this photo, the AC compressor (sanden) is mounted where the pump would be. alternator is in the same spot. I need to take some photos of his setup and post them. all of the belt pulleys are used up so there isn't a vacant pulley to use. there's no fan on the WP, it has an electric fan so maybe an option would be to add another pulley over the WP to run a belt. but not sure how I would mount up a pump.

My 1968 Camper Special had power steering.

I don't remember much about it. I swapped from the 6 cylinder to a 327.

It had a granny 4 speed.

I always wanted to swap a small block for that 250 ci 6 banger that was in the 69 C10 that we had. My buddies dad had a late 60s Ford F150 with the 352 V8 in it. He bragged about how strong that Ford was, like my dad's truck is faster than your dad's 6 cylinder Chevy.

Yeah, it's got double grove pulleys on the crank and WP already. all I would need to get is a 70 model gear box and some hoses. I can't remember if the pitman arm or the steering shaft use different mounting. it's been too long since I did one.

BTW, on the steering column, aren't they able to un-clamp and slide in or out some on the firewall? I was thinking about that the other day only because sitting in the truck the steering wheel seems to stick out a little more than I remember. it's not in your face but for me with the seat all the way back, there isn't a lot of room. my son on the other hand needs the seat up a little closer to reach the pedals. that just makes the steering wheel closer to him.
