Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Yeah, I saw one of the youtube vids showing a tool that a guy chucked into a drill and did the refacing of the valve at an angle. I would be scared of ruining the head!! I'm sure that tool is supposed to be used in a mill not a drill. and the thought of shaving too much off causing the...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

would it be better installing new valves? never done this before. I'm not wanting to send them to the machine shop if at all possible

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

is the motor making noise? might need to pull the inner panel and clean and grease the tracks. rollers are plastic and get brittle over time. you might have one broken or locked up.

    Pole Barn Garage

What type of post do you plan to use? if cut 4x4 or 6x6 treated posts, you could do a soaking in diesel or diesel oil mix and then once installed, trim around them with one-by's to cover and not get it on your hands when swinging around them LOL. kinda like how the old telephone poles are...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I have been looking online for the various torque specs and procedures for this engine. the only thing I have found is this from the DP forum. I would like to find the torque sequence for the head bolts and for the main caps and rod caps. looking online it seems that the mains might not be...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I followed up with the rest of the valves on the passenger head. they are all sealing up good now. Finally I am making some good progress :D

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I found these two links that were originally posted by @WarWagon on a different thread. they have since disappeared from the web, but I managed to find them recorded on the wayback machine. https://web.archive.org/web/20160625114913/http://www.v8dieseltech.net/spec/engspec65.htm...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

changing the subject and moving to the block. bearings have been a question on my mind. I have not pulled any of the main caps or rod caps yet. I know I will need to pull the rear main cap to get at the rear main seal, but as I inspect them, will I need to get some plasti-gauge to check...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I'm sure the seat widths are out of spec. I have now gotten three of them to seal using the same process. both the intake and exhaust for #8 and the intake for #6 all sealed up. I'm not installing the springs, just holding them down by hand when pressurizing the head ports. I think...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Ok Update: I seem to be getting somewhere now. I figured I would keep trying on one valve. intake for #8. I took my homemade doodad I made to fit the suction cup and chuck it into my drill. applied some lapping compound and went at it. spun the drill slow in both directions while lifting...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I looked on RA but they don't list new valves. I had wondered if getting new ones would lap in and seal better if these have a lip. correction: they do list them. exhaust valves are about $30 ea and intake are about $8 each. I suspect that there not far from sealing all the way around...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I might have to do that. I did make some progress on the one intake valve in the last photo. I used some of the jewelers rouge and a dab of oil and did a quick couple of passes. also did a leak test with the compressed air. it's only leaking on the side that's between the valves on the...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I might just be overthinking it here. applying air pressure and trying to get two metal surfaces to seal might be too much to ask. the engine these heads came off from did run and iirc had better compression than the other heads I pulled off. I need to go back and look to see what the...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Not trying to get them perfect, but just seal up better than before. I can polish them up if that will help

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Here is a closeup of the #1 intake and exhaust. They all look about the same as these two.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Yes they looked kinda rounded. I will get a close up pic. as far as doing angles and whatnot. IDK how to do that! I would assume I would need a special cutting device.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I came up with this doohicky that fits the rubber suction cup. the blue stem is made from a flexible rubber filament. it sort of acts like a rubber hose so I can chuck it into the drill. Hopefully this will help. I was also reading online about lapping valves and what causes them to still...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I am thinking of maybe trying with my cordless drill on the slow setting. the suction cups will come off the stick, so I can put a short dowel in one and chuck it to my drill. I also have some jewelers rouge if that would work better.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I guess I need to get a little more evasive on the valve lapping... I made an adapter to fit my blow gun and seal up on the exhaust port on the head. (still working on one for the intake side) installed a valve, spitzed some windex on the valve face and gave it some air. I had leakage all...

Check it with an ohm meter. iirc it's a basic switch.
