Is there a concise summary of the strengths and weaknesses of the various engine codes and years? For example just based on what I can remember and probably mostly wrong, something like this..
VIN J: 82-93 6.2 NA heavy duty 3/4-1 ton, plus military. Advantages - good flowing non egr intake...
I have built a lot of axles for racing and desert rigs, and I recommend you look at two things: First put a straight-edge on the back of the axle tubes. Weld shrinkage on the front of the tube will 'kink' the tube forward, resulting in a high spot on the back of the tube, right behind the welded...
White smoke is either engine coolant or unburned diesel, like a cold morning when the glowplugs aren't working (my 97 7.3 could fog out the whole yard)
It's a year-round resident of Scottsdale. I have an electronic thermometer in the coach, and it has hit 136 degrees in there this summer. It only goes on camping trips about 3-4 times a year. In the meantime, I drive it in a 4 mile loop around my house once a month to keep everything limber...
This NAPA battery was made in Nov 2004, and I put it in my RV in jan 05. It failed to start my 454 chevy rv yesterday for the first time in 9 1/2 years! Also I live in Scottsdale, where it is over 100° for 5 months every year. This is the longest battery life I have ever had; can anyone top it?
That looks like a copy of the classic Holley 'red' pump. The real holley is fairly cheap and amazingly durable. The one on my RV has worked maintenance free since 1997, and I even have one on my offroad race truck. They say it's not for diesel, but I don't see why not as long as it's not super...
Does it have piston oil squirters? I encountered a late model 6.5 long block put into a 90 6.2 truck. The block had oil quirters, but they reused the 6.2 low volume pump. The result was a wiped out cam and rod bearings.
So there is a post on the bottom of the tstat that extends down to block the bypass hole? It's always warm on phoenix, so I think I would rather restrict it by going to a smaller hose. A hose barb for a 3/8 ID hose has a passage of about .300", big enough to allow circulation and reduce pressure...
Fan clutches are low tech hassles on all engines.. Has anyone ever grafted on an electric lockup fan clutch from a big rig? Then you could just run a 200° temp switch.
