Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

Oh, yeah, getting rid of money never seems to be a problem, no matter what the project is - but that exhaust leak is probably the best excuse of the all to Get the diamond eye exhaust!

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

That's the plan...I´m hoping to get 10 years out of it. Got 9 out of my express van with minimal maintenance, so this time, with less rust to start with, same mileage and a lot more love, it should be possible! :) I find that is the problem with all the possible upgrades one can do...once the...

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

Anyway, the story continues. As I had ****ed up pretty much everything I tried to work on in the holiday period, I decided, I might as well give the exhaust a go as well. I have red countless posts about people ripping of the heads of the bolts on the crossover, so I decided to let time, rust...

    Importance of turbo balancing

im about to start rebuilding my gm8 turbo with a new shaft, new bushings and a new whicled wheel. I see a lot of people install the wicked wheel without balancing it. How stupid of me would it be to do that?

There was only one squeak-sound to be fair, but I still think You have an excellent point! 😂 Well, that makes our club a very exclusive one I guess... 😂😂😂

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

Oh no! It makes me feel a bit better that Im not the only one in the world that managed! Too bad you could never figure out the cause - it would be nice to be able to not do it again!! That is not the most stupid idea! I might just try that when I get the new casting!

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

So, since the turbo was ****ed and everything was closed for Christmas, I quickly realized there was no way I´d have my burb back on the road before I had to leave for work at the 5th of January - so I decided to give the projects I wasn't supposed to do over Christmas a shot, starting with...

I guess ill have to cross my fingers that i am fine with the engine oil i used to lube it. I guess i will notice soon enough if it leaks! 🙈

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

Uh Oh! I did smear the spring side with oil before getting it in place. I'm not sure id use the word liberally, though.. When I looked at it, it looked fine, and I started the engine after I had the new balancer In place and everything seemd fine. But I guess time will tell..

    Walbro FRB5 upgrade spring.

I will keep you updated! A little re-shipping is never stupid. I've been using a special service from a Norwegian based company with offices in NJ, that ships either via air or ships to Norway. They bundle stuff up so the shipping can be quite a bit cheaper than using ups or Fedex!

    Walbro FRB5 upgrade spring.

That is so kind of you to offer, @MrMarty51!! I managed to find a us hardware site that could sell me a couple without killing me with the shipping. The part number from walbro is 98-3595 as far as I know. It will be exciting times if they actually ship them. I've tried ordering these springs...

    Walbro FRB5 upgrade spring.

Ah, I see! I've had two walbros on my burb for about a year now, but the FRB-5s are as you know a little low on the pressure sometimes, so I've been trying to source those springs to see if they would make life better, but so far no luck! I guess I´ll have to wait until one of them dies, and...

@Burning oil are you still carrying these upgrade springs? :)

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

Yeah, the turbo shaft was a bit of a bummer! It could of course be a good excuse for a turbo upgrade, but as I've already invested in the wicked wheel and the service kit, I'm already a lot of money into my gm8. And I do like the thought of it looking as stock as possible when you open the hood...

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

I managed to source some fuel return line and hose clamps on the 26th. I found ONE open shop that had what I needed - but the hose was to big for the hose clamps to come all the way down to secure the hose. So that's a wait until I can get something that fits over fro, the US. Since the burb...

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

I was interrupted for a couple of days on my projects by something that's called "Christmas". Entire Norway shuts down. This is from 3am on Christmas Eve - which is the big day in Norway. Nobody does anything on 1st day of Christmas, so I had to wait an entire day to continue. Haha! Then I got...

    Rebuilding a GM8 turbo,show and tell

I just opened my turbo. In order to get divide the end part that goes down to the downpipe, I had to had a friend of mine weld on new nuts on the bolts to be able to open it up. The air side snail house was much easier to open, but disconnecting it from the air intake was the easiest part of...

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

Continuation of the HB install. The old crank seal finally came out: Then I made a "custom tool" with a piece of wood and used a mallet to get the new seal in. Again, thanks to @Hink for the great tip in his guide! New front seal in place: The new fluid damper was much easier to slide on...

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

So, finally I've sorted the pics, and I'm ready to write about my Christmas projects. My cunning plan was to set up a tent in my parents driveway, so I could celebrate xmas at their place while doing several projects on the burb. I thought it was a good plan. My goals were as following -install...
