Another 2 door Tahoe for me

I keep forgetting to update this thread….

This fall I noticed the 1/4” return line from the IP and injectors was cracking. That hose was some diesel-rated hose that I bought from McMaster-Carr that was a good price, but obviously wasn’t great quality.

So I got to drop the tank and replace the hose with some Gates Barricade hose with an SAE 30R14 rating. This stuff should hold up well. This is what I get for trying to save a few bucks.

I thought I had replaced the hoses on the Tahoe at some point in time. Must have confused it with something else again. Seems there was a couple things I thought I'd done to it that must have been one of the Suburbans or trucks

Last winter I did a 100% new fuel system in it..........so you may have changed the hoses, but I ripped everything out that was in there to start fresh.

Maybe you got yours out of a batch that had been sitting on a warehouse shelf since before the pandemic? But still, installed in a location where it wasn't exposed to the weather, extreme heat or sunlight, it sure does look like it was exposed to UV/ozone or something that caused it to harden and crack.

The power steering/hydroboost hoses have started leaking, so I replaced those today. The front has some looseness, too, so I decided to take a look at that…. I found that the rag joint was adding a lot of slop, so I replaced it with the 137,000 mile one out of the red truck - a good improvement over this 319,000 mile one. The steering gear also has some slop, but I wasn’t prepared to deal with that today, so I left it alone for now. It definitely drives better now. Interestingly, it also steers easier now, so either replacing the fluid with newer fluid, or maybe the old hoses had collapsed internally, either way, it’s better now.

Tahoe needed tires, so tires it got. I went up to 285/75/16. Even though they’re 3” taller than the 265/70/16s I took offf, they don’t rub at all.

Next up I need to rebuild the front suspension. I’m going to decide in the meantime if I should do a small 1” or so lift or not.

D’oh!! I totally forgot what I did to get to this point!!

I didn’t want to just slap the tires on the stained and corroding wheels, so some dressing up was in order.

First, I sandblasted the wheels. After that I cleaned them with KBS Klean.

Then I sprayed a coat of epoxy primer on them. Unfortunately I struggled with gun settings that worked with the complex wheel shape and ended up with some minor runs in between a couple spokes.

And then I sprayed 2 coats of Eastwood 2K silver spray paint.

And then I finally mounted and balanced the tires.

Looks awesome!
I'm hoping to make some improvements to it this year that improve the looks of it. I need to paint the bottom of that door so it matches. I might also do some rust repair to the rockers and quarters - but my worry there is that if I start down that path..........well, we've seen what happens when I do that. Maybe this would be the one I actually do quickly and not start a full restoration.

It could happen.
