GEP 18002514 dual thermostat housing

In the amount of time it took both of you to respond , you could have done a search and uncovered something interesting . Thanks for you responses .

So tell us what your search came up with, oh wait, ask FB and come back and tell us... And if you knew how to ask a real question you might have gotten a decent answer...

Simple question Chris . Have you ever heard of this part and if so do you have a thoughts ? This supposedly is used on the P400 in the H1 . You have posted on plenty of the P400 engines and I thought you might know about it . The interesting point is that this is a dual thermostat but it exits to the top towards the valve cover . Maybe not important to those running a DS4 but for those of us using the DB2 , with a throttle cable , this may work . So to me , that was a simple question . I'm

See- that is enough to understand what info you are looking for. They weren’t trying to be jerks in the first couple responses. I read it and skipped replying because I didn’t understand what you were asking.

I can’t verify that is the p400 part number- but everything I have seen the dual thermostat crossover is identical on p400 as all of them since 1996 as far as fit, use, and function.

The dual stat unit will work on a db2 but you have to flip the thermostat housing over the other way for it to clear the cable(s). There are people who covered it and some even posted pics on this forum.

The single thermostat with block off does a better job at cooling and even temperature maintaining than the duals.
There is misinformation abound on the duals being needed for keeping system pressure down. System pressure will stay the same.

The total volume of flow to the radiator is greater in single boock off than duals. Although the cross sectional area is larger with the two stats- the recirculating flow to the waterpump flows more than that amount back, even if you have the BRF installed because the block off single stat will force it all to the radiator.

The amount of flow going back to the waterpump is detrimental to the overall ability to reject heat out to the radiator.

In decades of doing this and helping people professionally and free- over 99% of people who tested single block off and duals, choose single stat.
Availability is the reason most run a dual system.

Anyone running a dual system should buy a BRF or diy one. The two draw backs to brf
1. Cold engine to full operational temperature (160f) if idling takes longer.
2. Thermostats both closed and brf has greater cavitation on the waterpump backing plate. So you are expected to replace it by 400,000 miles rather than reuse it for a rebuild and getting 600,000+ miles from one.

So what to do if you want it all but can’t find the single stat crossover you need?

Read the highlighted thread about it in my signature line titled:
Block off thermostat crossover option
