HydroBoost and Brake Lamp switch Clip.

On this 2000 K3500 truck. Got the master cylinder unbolted from the hydro boost and moved away.
Got under neath the dash unit and the brake lamp switch has this weird looking retainer attached to the pivot shaft nub.
It is not a hair pin style retainer.
This thing looks like a sort of a cap and It fits into a groove in the shaft.
Dont know how to explain it any other way other than it is spring steel and can be rotated on the shaft but there is no openings or seemingly any way to expand it to get it to release.
Anyone ever have to deal with such a clip ?
Please explain the removal procedure. Chiltons book explains it as a hair pin style of a retainer.
 
Was able to get a long narrow screwing driver into the slice and spread it open, then had just enough pressure to give it a bit of a lift.
Popped right offt. 😹😹😹😹

Seems to be in okay condition but I’ll have an excuse to go for a Harley ride and buzz out to the dealer tomorrow and see if they have any such a critters on the shelving.
 
Idk why GM kept changing the design of these clips. the one on my 95 had a flat piece that clipped over the end of the shaft, you had to pry it up then slide the clip to pull off the shaft. and to do that all with one hand. there is just barely enough room to get one hand in the hole between the dash supports. once your hand is in there you can't even see in there and have to feel your way around! not an enjoyable experience. there's other things I would rather "feel" my way around at LOL 🤪

Do you mean, like pulling a calf?
 
New boost unit is in the hole. Tightened, lines connected, brake rod threaded over the peg.
Ready to fire up and see if this nice commiechinesium unit is going to live or die. 😹😹😹
I did find a source for the accumulators for about $75.00 and the core for my old unit is a whopping $16.00 so I’m keeping this. I’ll source one of them chinesium seal kits and one of those accumulators and kit my old unit for a spare.
If this chineseium unit fails within warranty period then I’ll send it back to NAPA, tell them to credit my account and then go with My own rebuilt.
 
The brake pedal push rod fits a little loose over its peg.
I thought there should be a thin walled bushing in the rod but the parts diagram from the Chevy dealer shows none.
 
Brakes is good. Pedal is easy and there are four pumps on the pedal with the enjun off.
Glad that hydro boost didnt start leaking during the depth of that trip to Missoula.
I got home and seen the fluid in behind the wheel, thats when I discovered the leak was from the boost unit.
Pump reservoir was not empty, down to the bottom of the dip stick but not empty.

I have rebuilt 2 of the HB units with the kit from Pirate Jack https://piratejack.net/hydro-boost-rebuild-kits/ one thing you have to watch for is correct rod length, and config of your HB some have a threaded rod end, and others you have to cut and reweld back after the rebuild, depending on vintage of hydroboost, if getting a reman confirm correct length if rod is too long or too short (BEFORE INSTALLING) you will never get brakes to bleed/function correctly.

Ask me how I know, fiddle with that clip only to find the hydroboost you just installed was the wrong configuration. Grrrrr

For special tools you need a 16mm 6pt 1/4" drive deep-well socket and 1/4" drive long extensions with universal joint on socket, to make it a little easier, and I mean just a little easier, for the 4 mounting nuts/studs.
