I bought this 95 cc 3500 srw in 09 with a blown head for $1800. The block and heads were cracked so I bought Clearwater heads and block, peninsula 18:1 pistons and a lot of other stuff. This was the first motor I had ever put together and wasn't happy with the results so 35,000 miles later I bought a GEP from Ted's trucks and I couldn't be happier. With my big foot camper wet and loaded the truck weighs 11400 #'s. I'm currently running 9 psi max with my home made turbo master and my egts are 200* lower than with the last motor. I changed the precups to diamonds

User ARP studs

And .01 felpro gaskets

In the last week and a half I put 2200 loaded miles on with camper and a small pop up trailer behind it. I went north to south across Oregon through the Siskiyou mountains to the S. F. Bay Area and back.
Through the whole trip there were only 3 times I had to back off the throttle because of high egt's.
I have 4:10 gears and tow in 3rd so my rpms are around 2900@60 mph. My combined mpg for the trip was 11 mpg. I would like to add the ATT to my upgrades. How much will this improve my mpg?

YMMWV. Most are reporting 1 - 3 mpg (unlaiden) improvement.

I installed mine as part of a complete fuel delivery overhaul (lp, IP, GP, injectors, FTB) so cannot state effect on mileage given my old parts were no longer 100%. With the personal observation of no noticeable change, would I do it again? YES! Installation (per my mechanic) was rather straight-forward. EGT's went down. PSI (for the same power) went down. A *new* ATT is cost comparable to a *reman* GM-X. Less complex system (delete the vacuum pump and no wastegate). And the *best* part of all is that the turbo has EXCELLENT support!

Presuming you do decide to go the ATT route, get with Leroy for an update in programming as part of the package to account for the ATT.

And by the way, nice looking rig :hihi:

Looks great! I'm building a GEP myself too.
The ATT with an aftermarket exhaust (Diamond Eye on my site) and an aftermarket intake or K47 with dry AEM or AFE element will really make the engine perform very well, especially towing or with a big wind grabing camper shell.
3mpg improvement is common one customer got 5. A tune will make the most of it. I also make an adaptor that puts the upper right next to turbo so you use one hose and don't need to cut your upper.

Sounds like an awesome trip, I went the other way last time, Sacromento up north on coast to OR then east back home. One of my favorite trips so far.

I do have a 3 1/2" down pipe with 4" exhaust, I don't know what brand, it was installed by the po.
I also found a k47 air box and am running a paper filter. Oil cooler lines are from lubrication specialties?
I need a new fan clutch before summer and the rear brakes need some attention so the ATT has to wait a few months.

My exhaust is straight pipe and really resonates in the cab under heavy load.
What mufflers are people running and do you like them?

I put a magnaflow 20" on my 4" setup reduced noise a fair amount but not as much as the tune did. Lost some of the turbo whistle as well.

looks like this

Mine had that muffler or very similar on it. I took it off in search for more power and it made no difference in sound or power.
I had a maxi torque chip in my 94 along with a Heath exhaust and I liked it much better than my Kennedy chip.

Like Haggus, a tune dropped engine noise a bit (maybe 1 - 2 DB measured by the ear) in my rig as well. But the question looks more like it focuses on drone and I got a surprise when I went from an AFE 'CAI' (which, with an open box, I do not know how they justify calling it CAI) back to a K47 with a NAPA cylindrical dry paper filter and the drone dropped by ~2 - 3 DB (measured by ear).

From what I have read of others' experiences, that downpipe might play into the drone by rubbing against the frame.

Toward getting a little more quiet in the cab, I am getting a new-er update in the tune and adding sound deadening material under the carpet (firewall to 2'd row seats). If the sound is not tamped down enough, the next steps are to add sound deadening to the doors (actually, this is the expert's recommendation of the first place to go after, not the second as I'm doing it) and install a FTE resonator (probably the long one).

I like my Diamond Eye glasspack but it too can get a bit loud as the revs climb. Heath makes a "quiet" exhaust and I think maybe Kennedy Diesel. Jay is on to something with the airbox... the factory setup is alot quieter than some of the "open" cone filter setups. I am not sure if the new enclosed setups make a difference.

Corsa is the quietest I've heard of so far in the reading Ive done in the last few months, but pricey. Diamond eye seems to be the best budget choice and still be acceptable levels. I wish they would all put out attenuation ratings for fair comparisons.

The po had installed a cone filter and about 10 months ago I put in a k47. It made no difference in the the exhaust but it did quite down the turbo. The turbo noise didn't bother me though. Talking about different brands of exhaust, is the main difference the muffler? I mean how much different can the pipe be? The down pipe has to be bent to fit through the frame rails and the rest has to fit along the frame and over the rear axel. Right?

This is my first attempt to post a video. We'll see if it works. This is 0 to 60.

Do you still have the old precups? If so and they are good, want to sell them?

Sounds good,
