ok bought this gem 1000.00 barley got it home, wouldn't start warm and smoked like a chimney, so has 235,000 could be old slope rig, so pull tank about 3 gallons of ice/water removed cleaned sock blew lines out pulled filter and housing removed cleaned replaced, had old injection pump laying around off a n/a 6.5 so turned up screw 1/2 turn maybe little less, got whole thing back together runs great smokes tires, makes my suburban seem like a turd, no real "black smoke" that i can see as in un burnt fuel had to tell is -13, at this temp every rig has a white cloud behind it, put lift pump on relay so turn key and its on. went thru every glow plug and tested one by one 4 bad 4 good replaced with good old ones it had tested.
question?
1. all of a sudden after doing all of this she seems to be more of a knocka knocka diesel definitely louder why?
2. next glow plug light wont come on why?
3. in the process of n/a injector pump to 93 td version replaced black electrical unit on passenger side of pump n/a version had vacuum hose unit this one has plug and wire I put in same spot it is adjustable now i seem to not have over drive? why is this a sending unit ti transmission?
4. looking at turbo it says gm3 on tag is this stock for this year seems different than my 95 suburban?
Thanks for any input

I bet you have some bad injectors and/or the timing is too far advanced causing a knocking sound.

Check wiring, grounds, and GP relay. Sounds wiring related and the circuit is not completing itself.

No help on #3 sorry, I can tell you that the tranny has a TCM where the 94's have their ECM

GM 3 is a factory 92-93 truck "Intake heater" aka turbo

You advanced the timing over the other pump. Line to line is a joke for timing, you have to use tools or do it by ear.

Bad ground by transmission dipstick, GP relay issue, fusiable links burnt... Bad bulb? Does the GP relay click at all?

Backprobe this sensor. It is a 5v reference and TPS to the 'transmission computer'. You have +5v, sense, and ground. At idle you want 0.5V on the sense to 4.9 - 5.0V at WOT. Adjust the idle to 600 RPM warm first. Then adjust this sensor to 0.5v at idle with the fast idle solenoid off. Different IP's have different number of degrees of throttle shaft rotation. So if you are only getting 4v at WOT you have the wrong pump and can cook the trans off as well as not shifting properly - ask me how I know.

Turbo is a spring can wastegate vs. the vacuum system of the 1995. Both GMx turbo's are junk and you should get a better/bigger one. Surprised it isn't belching smoke with 1/2 turn on the IP.

Thanks for any input

See changes above.

Why did you not pull and test/replace the injectors as well? Water mucks them up fairly well.

Don't forget to remove the fender snorkel for more air.

Test the advance system on the used IP by running the advance pin in with a bar at idle. Engine should stumble. White smoke is not enough advance. Loud at idle with white smoke sounds like stuck advance piston.

You will have a code in the computer for out of adjustment sensor. Not emissions related so this computer never turns on the ses light for transmission problems. Computer doesn't control the engine so it never turns on the light except for engine not running loss of RPM signal, key on, and diag flashing. Pull bats for 30 sec after adjusting sensor to clear codes and get OD back.

like warwagon said, this is the TPS and needs to be adjusted to each engine/trans match-up. it will affect shift points.
here is some info about hummers, most pertain to the 92/93 diesel:

the owner before said it would lose overdrive once and a while and he would turn off and cycle key and it would
return any ideas why?

Common problem: TCM see's a difference in input and output shaft rpm. Not sure of the cure for it, but installing an OptiShift did cure it in ours?

Read the codes out of the computer. It will tell you. Likely a undefined ratio or component slipping. The TCC valve wears on these due to lack of fluid changes. TCC clutches wear out or other component slipping. IE may be rebuild time. Or it could be electrical. The computer drops out of OD and TCC lockup to protect the transmission. Sadly this turns the converter into a heater and can overheat it. A key off and on resets the protection mode till the computer sees something and enters it again.

Check the speed sensor wires in the front and rear of the transmission as the "old" insulation has a habit of flaking off and shorting things.

next question is this a 4l80e or a "4l60 "I'm not sure if I got second number right looks to me like 4l80e how do I tell differance I know old school Chevys turbo400-350-700r4 it also has the looks of a possible transmission change different bolts in bell housing also a accordion looking filter inline of tranny cooler lines, uncle who ownes shop said they use them
after tranny change
