Diamond Eye or Flo-Pro exhaust?

Ok, I know the subject of exhaust has been discussed a bunch, but I was unable to find the answer I wanted by searching.(here and else where) I'm trying to decide between the Diamond Eye system, that most people seem to be very happy with, and a stainless Flo-Pro system. I really want a stainless system, but maybe there's something wrong with the FP. Maybe not, I just don't see too many people talking about using it. What do you guys think?

Also, what about the muffler. I like a little rumble, but not much. And I hate the in-cab drone. I see that several people suggested the Walker BTM(big truck muffler) for a nice quiet 4" system. Anybody tried it with a 6.5? It's not stainless, so I guess I'd just get the DE system if I went that route. Magnaflow has some nice sounding gas systems and they do make stainless mufflers. Anybody have experience to share here?

I thought I had a nice sounding gas system, but my wife says it stinks.

All kidding aside I think DE is the most popular because of the quality and low price compared to the others out there.

SS will be more expensive as you know but if you live in the rust belt might be worth the coin.
 
Rust really isn't a problem here like it is other places. The aluminized system would last just fine, but.....I just like stainless! I bought the Magnaflow for my '97 K1500 50% because it's stainless and 50% because it sounded good on a Tahoe that I saw. It has that 'stock hemi dodge' kind of sound. That's kind of what I'm looking for, for the '99 K3500.
 
IMO they probably all use the same tubing, If they are both mandrell bent I would go for the lowest price.
 
My Diamond Eye is on its 2nd SALTY ASS New England winter without a hint of rust. Just use SS clamps, as the stockers are rusted.

I painted the system high temp grille paint black before install.
 
i just finished installing me diamond eye system today.

i really like it.

hope i get a few years out of it as it will mostly be used in the summer for the farm so not to much salty hwy driving.
 
The downpipe to 4" back connection is probably a good point to make. i think the DE has a good ball joint or something.

If you was quiet, I would look for a Hushpower muffler, I belive it is a combo of chambered and straight through. Other baffled systems work really well at quiet, like the one at SSDS for a fair price.
 
The ball coupling is one of the biggest things going for the DE in my opinion. I've used them before on header collectors. Forget gasket replacement forever! I'm leaning towards the DE with my choice of muffler and tip. Unless someone chimes in with something about the Flo-Pro. I want the stainless, but not at the risk of picking the wrong system.

Thanks for the suggestions on mufflers. I'll check into anything you guys suggest. I can always try a few until I find the one I like, but I'd like to keep that list as short as possible. With your help, I'm sure I can find a winner by the 3rd or 4th try.
 
I have tried a few mufflers, I consider any pure straight through to not be quiet, maybe not overwhelming, but not quiet. I had a Banks baffled setup and it was silent, which I think is a lot like what SSDS sells. I even tried a humongous Donaldson straight through type for a Cat tractor and it did almost nothing, barely less than straight pipe that I tried. I tried putting two straight through in line and that satisfied me enough and didnt hurt turbo performance one bit. Although I need to get off my bum and replace one of the straight thrus with a small chambered one I bought to try out. Its a car chemistry equalizer, and they customized I/O size and location to whatever I wanted, built to order at no extra charge.
 
Hey, Buddy, you got a part number for that Banks muffler? I looked on their site and couldn't find anything except the straight through 'Monster' muffler. That's not the one, is it?
 
I ditched the Banks system, but it was not the Monster Muffler, because my Banks exhaust was only 3" and 3.5" exhaust, kind of pathetic from like 15 years ago, and I think Banks stopped supporting the 6.2/6.5 long ago.

I am not sure how the new Banks mufflers work. I have never heard the hushpower either, but other have said they do well.
 
I've used Dynomax super turbo mufflers before and liked them. They were noticeably different than stock, but not loud. And when you really bury your foot in it, they growl a little, but not too loud or obnoxtious.(I hate that 2" glasspack 'cackle' all the high schoolers love) Any reason a 4in/4out Dynomax wouldn't work? I don't imagine that a diesel muffler is that much different from a gas one. Just bigger pipe. Any thoughts?

X2 my 1st was a Banks "stinger" setup 3" to 3.5" and it's cross flow design muffler then caused me problems on upper end, I gave mine away after going with Bill Heath's which has the "ball coupler" on the DP like the DE, he may even be rebadging the DE I don't know, he used to get his systems fabbed @ Stan's headers.

I've got (2) of his 4" systems now one on truck and other on the Burb, very tolerable when in cab even wife doesn't gripe, very "manly authoritative" sound out the tail pipe especially in a tunnel or when going by those concrete barriers.

My Brother in Law against my advise just bought a 6.0 Ferd we are looking for a system for his truck, I listened to the sound clip for the Flo Pro at their site last nite for the money I found a vendor that sold a aluminized 4" turbo back FP for a killer price out of respect to our vendor base I can't post it but do some searching on Yahoo or others for Flo Pro exhaust and you'll find it easily enough. Probably a made in China or India system I just don't know much about it yet, but looks like if you need bigger tube on a budget this might be a way to go.
 
finding a muffler that quiets at low rpm seems to be the trick, a lot of them are real good at high rpm, high velocity exhaust, but diesels cruise at low rpm in general. And I do not know if the additional soot will work well with mufflers that have that insullation stuff that may get clogged.
 
Thanks for the link. I like the sound of the SSDS "Wife Pleaser". Based on his description, I think it might be a great place to start.....That is, after I get the engine put back in the truck!
 
Turbine Doc and all our other good Diesel addicts south of the border. Just want to clarify that Flo-Pro is made in Red Deer county in Alberta. Red Deer is just about right smack in the midle of the two major cities in Alberta, Edmonton & Calgary. Alberta is like Texas when it comes to two things, oil and trucks. More trucks are sold in Alberta than the rest of Canada combined.

Very good to know that, shucks a lot of my truck is Canadian built so Canadian exhaust at decent price just might be the ticket indeed
