Nope, not going to even leave the light on. There would be no real reason for GM to stock back up on parts for trucks that have been out of production for over 20 years.
The aftermarket will serve the need.
Lets face it, the demand for a pan for a 20 year old rig has got to be fairly low.
There are loads of them out there, just tough to find when you need one in a specific time frame.
Just the other day I purchased a package of 20 of the little plastic oil pump shaft retainers from the GM store here locally.
You can't buy these at the parts store. They only come with a new oil pump.
I have torn down a lot of 6.2/6.5 engines that have had fine oil pumps that are in perfect shape, just need a new plastic retainer is all.
I would not count on any parts for the older stuff being restocked. 7 years is about the limit on a lot of stuff and then the little crap goes away and the major hard parts are about all that stays on the shelf.
Outfits like LMC and others will fill the need for all the little nic-nacs.
One thing that GM does do is keep a list of companies that have bought up the NOS stuff and can usually check to see if a particular part is available through those sources.
The aftermarket suppliers are better suited to handling the oddball stuff that the Big boys just don't sell much of.
I bought some interior stuff a few years ago from LMC and the stuff was all still in GM packages.
Back about 20 years ago, the local GM warehouse used to PURGE their stock every so often and what was not moving, literally went to the local DUMP.
A couple of us went over to the warehouse and spoke with the manager, and he told us if it was in the HUGE dumpsters out back, that it was fair game after the lights went out at 5PM
OMG we rounded up a couple large U haul triucks and cleaned out the dumpsters.
Took the stuff to mine and a friends places and stored the stuff and then negotiated a deal with a NOS parts buyer.
That worked well until GM got wind of it and then the warehouse did not leave the stuff in the dumpster any more.
That is when they started selling the stuff themselves. WELL DUUUUHHHHHH
GM tossed out millions of $$$$ of parts over many years. All that stuff could have been sold for at least a small cash price.
To say the least, for the few months that we were hauling off the spoils, we made a killing.
All we did was store the stuff, provide the buyers with a list of part numbers and the amount of each and they sent a truck and a CHECK. OMG that was GRAVY
Ahh well, all good things eh ?
