Have some questions about on a 02 D-max ZF6 2wd?

Believe it or not, I actually found a 2500HD CCLB d-max ZF6 2wd. It is a clean texas truck.

Now I would like to know if there is anything I should be keeping my eye on?

It has 180K on it, and it has had a full set of injectors at 83K in Sept. of 05.

The truck is stripped, (even ordered box delete, it currently has a flat bed) as it has hand cranks, vinyl floors and seats.

Basically, all i can think of is the intermediate steering shaft, (2wd so no pump rub! :) )and definitely something clutch or flywheel related if it hasnt been touched already.

If the truck is stock, and never had a tuner, how long can i expect out of the current set of injectors? I imagine the replacement injectors would last longer than the OEM ones? (as in revised)

They want $8,000 for the truck, does this sound like a deal?
 
8 grand? Hell, I'd jump on that.

If the injectors were replaced at 83k and its got 180k on it now, I'd say its 50/50 split between replacing them soon or just rolling with it. 180k miles is not bad at all though.

where is this truck??? I may beat you to it. LB7 is one hell of a good motor our 03 is an awsome truck that takes alot of punishment and hauls huge loads I assure you, you will love and for 8 grand if the injectors are shot and smokin blue or idleing rough you can do the job yourself
 
That's a pretty good price.

If the injectors ever go ba you can always replace them yourself it's really not thy hard and I have a diy writeup on here of how to do it.

Injector failure is unpredictable we have one truck that's had two sets done and it has 130000 on it we have another one that has 132000 on it and has never had them fail. My personal truck had them fail at 83000 and again at 103000 my uncles 01 went for nearly 9 years and 90000 miles before I had to replace his


The ISS is a minor issue.

The flywheel could be a problem but I don't know anything more about them other than they are a problem area.
 
allright, I will think more serious about it now!

If it did have a tuner, how much life is actually shaved off of injectors?

Now i thought no one would want a manual, let alone 2wd or work truck trim!
 
Tuner doesn't really affect the injectors longevity IMO.

I'd like to have that truck for a pulling truck and slowly build it with a component drivetrain.
 
Mostly just basic stuff to look for. Also check the intercooler pipes for rubbing by the power steering lines. As stated, injectors are a crap shoot. Mine had 130K on them when I got it and it didn't smoke a bit. It had one injector that needed to be cleaned(the plunger was sticking slighly inside from some gunk build up), but that was it. I wish now I would have just put the cleaned injectors back in it and let her roll on for awhile. The only good thing is I haven't heard of any real failures out of the latest revision LB7 injectors that came out AUGUST of 08.

So which is easier and cheaper to work on? LLY or LB7?
I am unsure of which one i should buy, but i do know that i want a ZF6, so therefore LB7 and LLY are the only options.
 
Depends on what you want to work on. Injectors are a breeze on the LLY compared to the LB7. But the LLY has all of the emissions stuff on it.

Personally I like my LB7s. Plus i think the LB7s sound nicer.
 
If you don't mind doing injectors, the LB7 is a better way to go I think. Then you don't have to worry about the 5-7 injector harness, overheating, and all of it's quirks. They all have issues, but if these new LB7 injectors are better then the choice is as simple as can be I think for the LB7.
 
So for cheaper and easier to work on (for the most part) and a little more reliability, one would go with an LLy, correct?

Sorry for acting selfish, but i want to keep the cheap 02 that i am looking at to myself for now.
 
Don't let the injectors scare you. You'll have at most $1500 wrapped up in replacing all 8 using gm remans and about a Saturdays worth of work if it's your first time. Experienced technicians with a lot of motivation and organization can do them in under 9 hours.
My first set I did with the motor in a truck took me about 17 hours and I was working kinda slow. My next set took about 9. I did a set with the motor out of the truck which didn't take but 2 hours.

The lly issues are easy fixes. By replacingthe turbo mouthpiece with an lbz unit you can lower the risk of headgasket issues. And gm has a kit to fix theharness issues Iirc it's about 180 bucks.

Headgasket aren't too bad to do if you have the time an tools. I prefer to pull the motor as it makes life easier and only takes a couple of hours. My first time took 6 hours and I remove the trans from the truck cometely. My quickest time was just under three hours with a buddy helping and a lot of determination tohave it running for the pull the day. Once the motors out expect to have a good 8hrs taking your time to do things right. Gm mechanics are given outrageous hours to perform the repAir iirc it's something In the 30 hr range but they do it in the truck which can be done by removing the entire front clip at a minimum and fenders to get more room.

Expect to have about $450 in parts for doing headgaskets.
 
You can put a better fuel filter and water separator on to help the injectors live longer. Water and dirty fuel will accelerate the demise of the 'weak' injectors. Although they do last longer than the 6.5 injectors that are 'done' at 100K...
