What Racor filter models work best on our 6.5's? I've been trying to find a 490 like matt's but have been unable to find any at a decent price. I was just wondering if others models worked just as well.

That is where I've been looking. I see a lot of different models and prices. I need to know which models work w/ our trucks best w/ the least amount of modification.
 
445, 460, are sufficient for most, I have a 460 on the truck & a 490 waiting to be installed on the burb, all use same head just longer filter body for 45-60-90 gph, I got the 90 because of the price not that I'll be flowing 90gph. The 4 indicates with prime 645 is a non priming head, 45, 60, 90 indicate the gph, R-S-T indicate 2-10-30 micron I think; it's been a while since i've looked up the letter designator. I run with a 10 micron on mine

I knew you would have a plethora of information. Basically what you are saying is If I get any 400 series I can use any of the aforementioned sized filters.

Right. The filters for each series are interchangeable, both for size (45/60/90) and for micron rating (R/S/T). Right now on eBay, there's an older style 500-series with an integral heater. Pretty reasonable. I also saw a Racor add-on heater kit . Kinda pricey; cheaper to buy the entire setup from the git-go. I'm going to buy one of the 500's and install it on the frame before the fuel pump. That way the pump only sees heated, filtered fuel. No problems from gelling or clouding fuel.

Yes and WIX makes replacement elements so cost is less as well, I highly recommend the filter bowl wrench as well as it fits over the bottom of the plastic base exactly virtualy eliminating the possibility of breaking it using a tool not specifically designed to remove it.
 
Not certain what mounting locations you're considering, or where are good spots on a Suburban?

To get a sense of the size of the filter head & 90 gph filter element, there's a pic of my install in my album.

It's on a longbed pickup & the filterhead is bolted to/through the front bed u-channel crossmember. I put a little 1/8" plate to shield it a little from road debris flying back.

I put a Racor R45P inline before the lift pump, mounted on a crossmember.

Nice install! The bed is off my truck right now, so now would be a good time to do bracket work on a crossmember. I also like SD's idea of a shield to protect the filter from road debris. Hmmmm.... Projects for Thanksgiving! :D
 
Can't beat this guy for Racor.

Staff edit ebay link removed, this ebay vendor is a direct competition with vendors that pay to advertise their Racor filters here

Just make sure you visualize the size of these things, they are huge.

I love mine. The clear bowl is awesome. Not only can you see fuel condition, but all sorts of rust/other things heavier than diesel end up in there...

If you read the blue writing they left in place of the link it give an explanation. My issue w/ the explanation is it is incorrect. I just went to every supporting vendor website looking for Racor filters and didn't find any. So if the mod that deleted it would like to post a link to a supporting vendor that sells them I will gladly take a look at what they have. I have even emailed and called a few of the vendors that looked like they might be able to get them before I started this thread and they didn't sell them. In addition in the past (before the big change) We always knew which moderator deleted a link so if we had any questions we could take it up w/ them. Finally, I agree that if a link is for a product one of the supporting vendors sell then it should be deleted. My issue is that if it isn't in direct competition to any of the vendors then it should stay. Just my 2 cents.
