Should work fine. Since they're both from a 5.3l, they both have the same converters and bellhousing patterns, and since they're both from an LS engine, they already use the EC3 lockup system. Just make sure thats your problem, otherwise ylu could be swapping trannies just to have the same problem.

What else could it be? I was pulling out on to the road and heard a bang and then no forward motion.
Thanks for the help with this I have been told so many different things it was getting confusing.

    How does the engine run?
What happens when you put it in Drive? 1st? Reverse?
If you jack up the axle do the wheels and drive shaft spin freely? Anything look out of the ordinary?

Does it move at all? Have you tried putting it in 4 low and see if it moves? A loud bang with no more movement sounds more like transfer case than transmission. Unless you were really getting on it, I would find it hard to believe a shaft or clutch broke in the trans, but it isn't that uncommon for transfer case problems to occur and cause this.

It will backup but not move forward no matter where the transfer case is put. Will roll down hill without a problem. did not see anything when I was under it.

What if you try putting it into 2 with the shifter?
