I ran a junk yard for a friend of mine. Before that, I was in the towing business. Actually, not the "towing" business but I moved salvage around the country. I used to pick them up at body shops for salvage auctions and also delivered them for the buyers. I didn't want to do the "middle of the night" type of towing for accidents and breakdowns and stuff like that. Which, ironically, is where the $ is!
I bought a 1986 Ford F350 Rollback w/6.9L Diesel, used that up, then bought a 1988 F-Super Duty Rollback w/7.3L Diesel, and finally a 1990 F-600 Diesel Rollback, before giving-up. All I was doing was making truck payments and using-up brand new trucks. I never really made any money.
In 2007 my friend asked me to come down to his yard and "modernize" it, installing computers and running the subscription inventory system, EDEN, from Hollander. I counted his $ and did his bookkeeping for about 5 years and finally advised him to close the place down. He wasn't making any money either. That business has changed from what it was in years gone by. We junked-out over 600 cars at the end of 2012 and he moved to Florida. We're getting old and he had some health problems.
The bookkeeping job evolved into a salvage towing sideline, with which I was familiar. I modified an Econoline Equipment Trailer to carry two cars at a time. It's pictured in My Albums. I remove one set of axles because the cars don't weigh that much. It has hydraulic tilt and worked pretty well. I also have a lighter cat trailer which I lengthened to accomodate two wrecks. I also ran cars, from The Hemmings Motor News, on long hauls; mostly FLA.

I'm interested in Genealogy and Travel. I enjoy my home & wife and movies and shows.
