heard this morning XM/Serious might get bought out in the next couple days or they might go under.

then, I get to work and they have sent me an email stating that they will no longer be having the online stream for "free", it will now be $2.99 a month unless I extend / renew my subscription by 10 March :wtf:

so, now I don't know weather to extend my subscription with them on the brink of going under and then I am out the money I just paid for a subscription... :mad2:

of course, I hardly listen on line any more anyway since they block it at work now. :nono:

What? Going under? Didnt they just merge? WTF over?

I will say that the quality of music has gone way down since the merger. I've had both and much preferred Sirrius over XM. Now, I'm endlessly scnning through for something decent. Sirrius used to rock and now it pretty much sucks ass.

do not do anything now. they are changing prices so people pay in advance for yearly contract so they can raise capital. but people are just cancelling. they need a quick influx of cash to pay off the stern contracts when they close.:D. i doubt they will be around long.

How does this work out for people like myself that paid for a lifetime membership aslong as the hardware stays good?

Lifetime contracts on anything are only good as long as the co. is in business.Try not to panic about them going out of business though, they have a tremendous investment in equipment .I have been reading a lot of threads about dissatisfaction since the merger, and I admit I liked some things from both services.I am a dealer and had "free"subscriptions to both. The music channels play lists aren't that much different now, mostly just different dj's,and different shows.Since the complaints come from both sides,I think everyone will be more satisfied a year from now.

i think i am canceling mine actually. i dont drive as much any more so i think i am done. i am also not happy with the new programming so i would say by the end of feb i am done. i have to commute to school until march so i will keep it till then.

as far as the company goes they are in bad shape. Mel, CEO has not done well. i heard the shareholders were trying to get him out. stack prices are very low, to the point where it is now considered a penny stock. not looking good for the firm.

I had XM, and currently have a "Trial" of Sirius in my car since I'm driving it now with the truck broken. I'm not going to keep it for the same reason I yanked the XM reciever in my truck: Commercials for things like Viagra, Cialis, Extenze, Adam & Eve, weight loss... The crap they have that I don't want to listen to goes on and on. If they want commercials, fine... then the programming should be FREE. If they want to charge for the subscription, then NO F*****G COMMERCIALS!!! If I want to listen to comemrcials, I can just listen to FREE FM radio, and hear less commercials, and no "adult" commercials.

Sorry for the rant...

I agree.:iagree: the commercials however pay some of the jocks so they can stay on the air.The ones like Dave Nemo who get very little in comparison to some jocks.
I had xm then Sirius (the dog)came along and when they got rid of wide open which was one of my fav shows. I canceled.I to don't like the change. Sent emails to complain no one listened. Yep good move payin that idiot multi millions to go to the dog:mad2:.
Xm had over 5 million subscribers. I will admit that I miss it but give me what I want or I'll take my money else where.

I have XM in my car and the 05, and service has kind of gone downhill. Granted, I still like the programming, but it's not as good as before. Plus, I just paid a year subscription for my car, so it's going to stay. I haven't heard anything about it tanking, so I'm not worried. What's a lifetime subscription cost??

heard em talkin about the chap 11 again this morning on the news... I dont think i will be paying again. hell, cant hardly ever listen any more anyway. they block it at work, plus they are gonna charge for streaming anymore and I aint gonna pay for that. I hate that they took the gigling trucker chick off the 80's channel a couple years ago too!! she was the bomb! what was her name? she had the greatest little giggle thing going.

I have had XM since 2003 in my truck, my other 3 vehicles have XM either factory equipped or a standalone receiver, and I also have a unit in the house.

I mostly listen to talk on XM, I like FOX ch 121, America Right ch 166 and I listen to ch 46 for music.

Comedy channel sucks now, and they didn't bring the shuffle over when they merged.

If they go under I will have to load my I-Pod up and get an adapter as I won't be able to take the FM static.........

Big time ouch. I read they are getting ready to file chapter 11.

I have had the truck for a little over 2 years and 40,000 miles later I think I got my use out of the Sirrius box. Probably had it closer to 1 1/2 years. Plus I think I have spent more on worthless shit then to have watch my $400 purchase go to shit. JMO though

This is all news to me. I've had XM since 2003 and liked it a lot till the merger when they took my two favorite music stations off. Now I listen mostly to Fox News and ESPN. I also listened to MLB.
I guess its time to upgrade the mp3 player, I travel to work...sometimes 300mi and I hate searching for FM channels on the road.

depending on my mood i either listened to squizz(now octane) or one of the country stations. Now I have noticed advertisments in between songs occasionally along with a shitty playlist on all the stations it seems. Needless to say my debit card that was auto paying them expired last month and I didnt call and give them the new experation so that will be the end of my service for a while unless they turn back around and quit with the ads and play some better music.

The playlist changed slightly on Sirius 14,15 and 16 which were the main music stations I listen to, what I dont like are the lame DJ's that are on them now.... they need to STFU and play the music
The Nascar channel is still good (other than Claire B Lang being annoying)
and the rets of the talk channels seem unchanged.
I have been month to month for over 2 yrs and will stay that way, if they keep taking things like the computer listening away it will start to tip the scales. I have already had 2 receivers take a dump on me and one of them I ate.

Well, they might be afloat longer, but not sure about alot of the program changes.

Liberty Media To Invest In Sirius XM Radio
Liberty To Invest $530M In Radio Company
Sirius XM Radio and Liberty Media said they have signed a deal in which Liberty will invest $530 million in the financially struggling satellite radio company.

Sirius XM Radio Inc. and Liberty Media Corp. said Tuesday that the investment's first phase includes a $280 million senior secured loan, $250 million of which will be funded Tuesday.

The second phase provides an additional loan of $150 million to XM Satellite Radio, a Sirius subsidiary. Liberty has also agreed to offer to buy up to $100 million of the loans outstanding under XM Satellite Radio's existing credit facilities from the lenders.
