Will the AC compressor kick in if it is low on Freon? 1994 K3500

It's an AC DELCO 152962, ROCKAUTO has it for $15.81. They list it as the A/C clutch switch, not a pressure switch. I've personally just used the cheapies as they all fail sooner or later.
