Where's the best place to put the EGT probe?

So I've got a 4" exhaust system arriving this week and I figure while I'm at it I'll put an EGT gauge in it. Qustion is though where? In the turbo down pipe? In the exhaust manifold? Where the turbo and the exhaust sections met? Thoughts?

I put it in on the passenger side exhaust manifold, pre-turbo in my LLY Duramax. I want to know what the EGTs are before they hit the turbo.

Yeah, before the turbo in the manifold. Some people call that a turbine inlet temp. Its a good idea to let you know how hot its getting inside there.

my Banks exhaust came with the bung installed already, in the down pipe about 18 inches after the turbo. I can see why youd want to see pre-turbo temp, however post turbo is going to read high too if it's getting too hot. Plus, what if there were a temp issue with the turbo, that you couldn't onitor with a pre-turbo gauge? Don't know if that even makes sense. I think I like monitoring the whole system. I'm going to re-install my new one in the same place. Gale Banks has to know something about diesel exhaust temps.

Post turbo is fine too, instead of a max of 1200f go with 1000f post turbo.
