A little more than a year ago my truck started shutting off. It was like someone just turned off the ignition switch. It was completely random and always started right back up. Then it got more frequent, then it got harder to start, and then it didn't start. I suspected the PMD, as it was the original design and location, some searching on the site gave me the confidence to order a new kit.
I bought the new updated "heavy duty" unit from Stanydyne, heat sink, and a six foot cable. I mounted the unit behind the license plate on the front bumper. After installation the truck fired right up. Everything was fine for about six months. Then, all of the sudden, it started shutting off again. I contacted the seller to ask about a warranty, the seller said he had never had a problem and wanted me to check a ground on the backside of the engine. I did, it was loose, so I took it apart, made sure all was clean and good, and put it back together.
The problem has persisted, and is starting to get harder to restart. The seller told me the next step would be to send it back to him so he could put it on his truck and determine if there was a problem. That was unreasonable to me at that time, so I have continued to drive the truck, waiting for it to fail completely.
The truck almost stranded me today, but after about five minutes it restarted. The last time it shut off was Christmas night, so that's 18 days between incidents. I've got the weekend off so I'm going to spend some time looking at it this weekend.
What is the chance that the FSD has failed again, and what else might I be looking for.
The truck is a 1997 1500. 160k miles. Four inch exhaust and a Kojo tune. "F" type intake.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
