Went to the VW dealership today for my final free oil change with the car purchase. I'm at 30K on the car now, dealer informed me my 40K service will cost $562 + Tax. Yea, I about fell out in the service bay..

As I search the net it seems it's pretty common since I have the DSG trans (Automatic) and the majority of the cost is with the fluid and labor to change it.

I think it's insane. :mad2:

Never got cheap work done at a dealer. You must have seen the other quotes for $900 to do this so your dealer isn't doing you too badly. Usually I spend a grand before I leave the service bay. Flushing an Allison isn't cheap either. I will mention that GM has done all they can to make 100K service intervals for just this reason.

You can always see how far the factory lube will really go... But it appears from oil samples that the 40K service has the most junk in the oil.

Well it did cost me $240 worth for Transynd and I did it myself so...:dunno: - Maybe you aren't getting screwed too bad. Should at least get a reach around.:hihi:

There is a difference between a 40k oil change and the trans flush, and the "40k Service, w/ DSG Flush". We had the 40k service done, and the price was similar to what you describe. If you google it, it includes everything from checking the tires, brakes, suspension to lubing the door hinges and sunroof, all kinds of crazy stuff. It's up to you if you want it. I saw it as a nickle a mile service, and changing the oil every 3k on other vehicles is nearly that expensive sometimes, especially on something like a Duramax. Although I do plan on doing future services myself...

The DSG flush alone is around $250, half of that is fluid and the filter. You DO have to use the VW fluid, even if you DIY...
