Turns Over Hard, Won't start. I Have 1997 3500 With 245000 miles on it. Was started after work on a cool day at about 30 degrees, idled for about 30 seconds and then died. Now it turns over really hard, had the starter out and tested good, put new batteries in and still turns over really slow. Was told to take out the glow plugs and see what it does, I got 7 of the 8 out and still turns over really s

Check battery connection

The first thing after you disconnect battery negatives should be try turning engine over with a fly wheel turner. Quarter million miles-it is possible something broke.

Another test is remove belt and try. If vacuum pump, steering pump, etc is locked up.

If it turns over by hand ok,
Disconnect the batteries from each other and load test. If you don’t have one: https://www.harborfreight.com/100a-612v-battery-load-tester-61747.html. And cheaper with their online discounts.

Next, clean the connections at the battery and reconnect paying attention to the stupid spacer between the cables. Leave negative off for a moment. Disconnect the starter side of the cables, reconnect battery negative and use that fancy new harbor freight tester again through the cables. This will tell you if the cables are toasty.

Replaced side post with top post is ALWAYS best option long term when it is time for new batteries. If original cables or bad cables do them at same time but get top post obviously. If doing new cables but batteries are still good and you don’t want to spend the money till batteries are toast- get the top post cables now and a set of adapters to side post. Then in a year or two when you do buy new.

Now, if batteries test good and cables test good- if possible post videos to YouTube or bitchute and post link here for us to see.

I’m missing another test here guys- what is it?
